🚨 Attention Pet Owners in Wales! 🚨
There’s a worrying outbreak of canine parvovirus in North Wales, and our furry friends need us to be extra vigilant. This highly contagious and potentially deadly virus has been confirmed in areas like Rhyl and Wrexham. 🐾
Parvo can strike dogs of all ages, but puppies and unvaccinated dogs are most at risk. It attacks the cells in the small intestine, leading to serious issues such as vomiting, severe bloody diarrhoea, lethargy, and weight loss. If left untreated, it can be fatal. 😢
Here’s what you can do:
🔹 Ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date. This step is crucial in preventing this disease.
🔹 Watch out for symptoms. If your dog shows any signs of parvo, like loss of appetite or fever, contact your vet immediately.
🔹 Be mindful of where your dog roams—avoid contact with other unvaccinated dogs.
Parvo spreads through direct contact with an infected dog’s saliva or faeces, or indirectly through humans’ hands and clothing. Even cats can catch it, so it’s not just our canine companions at risk. Humans, however, are safe from this virus.
Local vets are on high alert and urge pet owners to take action. Affected areas have already seen multiple cases, and it’s vital to act quickly if you suspect any illness in your dog.
