Meet Biscuit 🐾A brave little fighter!

Biscuit is a very special rescue puppy who’s captured everyone’s hearts at our South Ockendon practice. 💛

He was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his legs, leaving him with hind limb injuries and in need of urgent treatment and round-the-clock care. Thankfully, our lead vet and branch partner, George 🩺, stepped in to give him the best possible start and took him in for himself! He took him home and, with the help of our nursing team, hand-reared him back to health.

Biscuit is now doing brilliantly, growing stronger every day, and is a much-loved member of the South Ockendon team. 🐶✨

This Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re reminded that the unconditional love of pets can play a big part in supporting our wellbeing. Whether it’s a wagging tail after a long day, a purr that brings comfort, or simply getting out for a walk together, our companions remind us to slow down and take care of ourselves.

At Medivet, we’re proud to care not just for pets, but also for the people who love them. Supporting each other; colleagues, clients and communities is at the heart of what we do.

Let’s celebrate the bond between people and pets, and the role it plays in better mental health.

💬 How does your pet help you look after your wellbeing? Share your story in the comments.

Say hi to this prickly little guy! This brave little hedgehog was brought into our Medivet Beeston practice after being injured by a strimmer and needed an amputation.

Garden wildlife often need a helping hand and small changes, like checking long grass before strimming, can make a huge difference. 🌱✨

They won’t show it, but it doesn’t mean they’re not hurting.

Pets instinctively hide pain - especially in their joints. We’re here to help you spot the signs they can’t speak about, with a FREE Mobility Pain Check.

Meet the handsome 💙Rodney💙. He is a Ragdoll cat and was in to be castrated today.
• Castration (neutering) in male cats is the surgical removal of the te**es under general anaesthetic.

Why we castrate male cats:
1. Population control
• Prevents unwanted litters — one unneutered male can father dozens of kittens each year.
2. Behavioural benefits
• Reduces roaming (males often wander far to find mates, risking road accidents or fights).
• Decreases spraying/marking with strong-smelling urine.
• Lowers aggression and fighting with other cats.
3. Health benefits
• Eliminates risk of testicular cancer.
• Reduces risk of injuries and infections from fighting (abscesses, FIV, FeLV).
4. Welfare and community benefits
• Less nuisance behaviours (yowling, spraying).
• Helps reduce the number of stray and feral cats.

🏆Braveheart Award🏆

Meet Dudley, our most recent award winner🐢✨🐾

Dudley is a 55 year-old tortoise who came to us because she wasn't eating or acting herself. Our vet, Lizzie suggested that Dudley come in for an ultrasound to see what is going on. Dudley's ultrasound showed some dense follicles which suggested follicle stasis. This is a condition where the egg follicles in the ovaries stop developing or being released like they should. Instead they remain stuck inside which can make a tortoise feel unwell. To help Dudley feel better, our vet performed a pre-femoral spay. This is a surgical procedure where the reproductive are removed through a small incision near the hind leg. The procedure went extremely well and Dudley was so brave when coming in for her post-op checks with our nurses.

Dudley is recovering well and is getting ready for a winter of hibernation💚

We would like to introduce this very brave boy, Arthur. 🐈

Arthur came into out South Ockendon practice recently for a tail amputation. There are many reasons a cat may need an amputation and in this case it was because Arthur was found as a stray and had a severe infection in his tale. The team made the decision to amputate so Arthur could live a happy and healthy life.
