Does your dog have a problem with other dogs?

It’s very unlikely to be the case.

If your dog is reacting to other dogs aggressively, It’s because they think thats the right thing to do!
Remember your dog is ALWAYS doing their best.
And if your dog is trying to see off other dogs on a walk, It’s absolutely because they think they have to protect you.
And they are likely to get better and better at d**g this job!
If your dog thinks that their role is to protect you, It’s because you have accidentally told them that is their job.

If you have a reactive dog you may have already tried To modify their behaviour around other dogs.
It can be hard to change the behaviour where it occurs.
People try food rewards, redirection, reassurance, and even reprimand.
The problem is that we are trying to modify a behaviour Which in itself is only a SYMPTOM of the problem.

It’s much easier to go for the CAUSE of the behaviour.

If my dog no longer sees their role as protecting ME
And understands that in fact I am leading and protecting
THEM,
Then they can start to feel safe, relax, and look to me for guidance.

When we change aspects of our relationship with our dog, And make sure that we are being:
The Kind, Calm, Confident and Competent(in Dog terms)
Leader,

Then we are offering them a peaceful and harmonious way of being:
The Calm, Confident, Perfectly Behaved (in Dog terms)
Follower.

And the result will be the best communication and partnership,
Successful and peaceful in the world together, Both of us in tune, And feeling good.

Because when we change, our dog changes!

It’s 100 % the case that
If your dog is doing a behaviour you don’t want,
YOU need to change YOUR behaviour!

So far this ALWAYS works -

Teach the human, to help the dog.

This is why it works:
When we understand how we got here,
Why the muddle occurred
And how it occurred.
It all makes sense.

When we understand what
Our dog is looking for -
To relax, feel safe, and get everything right,
We can understand what needs changing.

When we understand what we need
To do differently,
What we should be doing,
And what we should not be doing,

Then we become the answer to all our problems
We can change everything,
We get it right
So that our dog can get it right.

It’s simple,
It’s kind,
Changes can come fast.

Life is too short to have to struggle,
Life with a dog is too precious.

It’s not difficult to change everything,
And set things up for
An easy and good life for you both.

The steps to keeping your dog safe:

Leadership is safety:

My dog listens to me
My dog understands
My dog knows basic commands -
Come, Sit, Stay.
Safe in our partnership.

Sometimes containment keeps my dog safe:

Garden gates
Escape proof garden
Closed doors,
Baby gates,
Crates.

My care keeps my dog safe:

I am always thinking ahead to keep my dog safe.
I keep focused on my dog at all times
If we are out -
And special vigilance if they are off the lead.

Incase my dog gets lost:

They are microchipped with my contact details.
I keep the information including phone number
Updated.
This is a legal requirement. (£500 fine))

AND

My dog always has my phone number
Printed on an identity tag.
And maybe my friend’s number on the other side.
An ID tag is a legal requirement
(£1000 fine in the UK).

And it means that someone can let me know
As soon as they have found my dog -
Way before my dog ends up at the police station,
Or is taken to the vets or the dog warden,
Or other official place with the microchip reader machines.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE LOVELY PEOPLE WHO STEP IN WHEN THEY SEE A DOG THAT MGHT BE LOST!

It’s OK that your dog is not your best friend!

Doesn’t mean that you love them any less.

In fact, your dog might be the one you love the most in the whole world!

The one you most enjoy being with,
The one you look forward to going home to,.
The one you feel truly seen by,
The one you trust the most,
The one you can be most yourself with,
The one you can depend on,
The one who is truly present with you,
The one who helps you be present with them,
The one who helps you be present with yourself,
The one who knows you inside out,
The one whose presence heals,
Your teacher,
Your divine companion,
Your soulmate.

I guess I am describing some kind of best friend!

But still, it is kind of us
When we don’t rely on them
Too much.

It is kind of us
To take care not to put too much
Emotional need their way.

Our relationship will be healthy
If my dog gets to spend time
Without me.

And I take care to keep up other relationships,
Hobbies, Work, and play.

Doing stuff elsewhere and with other beings,
Will keep us both free,
And keep our love
Full, free and light!

If It works for you...

THAT’S GREAT,

You do not have a problem!

How gorgeous - you and your divine little lap dog!

You only need to even consider this point

If it’s NOT working.

In that case,

Taking into account this aspect of dog psychology

Will be of real help to you both.

I am here if you would like my help.

WHY Less is more …

When my dog is with me:

Less excitement = more calm relaxed dog

Less speed + more slowness and control -
For a listening dog.

Less tiring them out + more walking and mooching about
For a quietly fulfilled dog.

Less training your dog + more cultivating good habits -
For a well behaved dog.

Less correcting your dog and trying to teach them ‘right’ and ‘wrong’
+ more setting things up to avoid behaviours we don’t want -
For an easy dog.

Less instructions and words + more repeating behaviours we want,
For a dog who understands and succeeds.

Less Doing = More Being
Good for you and your dog.

Vet bills and how to handle them…

You need to either make provisions for these costs, or have insurance or available credit.

Pet insurance

Will be the most expensive over your dog’s life time - it’s a profit making business.

But you will have peace of mind for any big bills. You will have predictable monthly costs - and maybe exclusions for certain conditions, excesses to pay, and policy limits.

Self-funding

Allows you to keep all the unspent money. There are no exclusions, claim forms or insurer decisions to deal with.

However, you need to either have savings or available credit.

In essence:

Pet insurance exchanges money for certainty

And self-funding exchanges certainty for the possibility of spending less overall.

And thank goodness:

Most countries have charities who maybe able to help with vet fees where people are in real hardship.

Don’t do these things:

- Don’t try to explain to your dog what’s wrong with their behaviour (REMEMBER THEY CAN’T SPEAK ENGLISH!)
- Don’t try to teach your dog what’s RIGHT and what’s
WRONG (THEY CAN’T DO MORAL PRINCIPLES!)

Do these things instead:

- Just reflect on how I could’ve done things differently to prevent behaviours I don’t want (BECAUSE I’VE LIKELY BEEN PART OF THE PATTERN DEVELOPING, BECAUSE I WAS THERE AND IT HAPPENED!)
- Make a plan to do it differently next time to help your dog do the behaviours you would like.
- Prevent them doing the behaviours you don’t want (REMEMBER YOUR DOG THINKS THE RIGHT THING IS
WHAT THEY DID LAST TIME!)

I help people and their dogs all over the world and do not need to meet your dog for you to make all the changes you want. Send me a DM if you would like to work with me.

So you see how..

You might have got into this vicious circle of pulling.
You probably have been trying loads of ways of stopping your dog pulling.
And probably nothing has really worked.
Your dog is still pulling.

Every time your dog pulls on the lead,

We are practising pulling.
We are rehearsing this behaviour again and again.
We are often reinforcing the behaviour

By how excited we get when they pull -

We often bark lots when they pull…
We know that your dog is always doing their best -
And if your dog believes that pulling is what we do
And that sometimes the human barks and pulls back,
Well, they are going to get better and better at pulling!

Bless their hearts.

We need to find a new way
To break out of this vicious cycle.

We need to set things up differently,
Set up our relationship right,
Get the communication going well,
Get control of our dog,
Without physical restraint,
And without barking at them!

I want to control my dog with our relationship
And my leadership and our communication.

I want to control my dog with commands,
Setting up the behaviours that I want.

This is very different from physical restraint.

Remember there are two ways to control a dog -

Physical restraint

Or

Relationship.

If I set up the right relationship,
And the right communication,
If I practise the commands
And the behaviours we want,

THEN we can succeed.

When we have done all that
We can practise explaining to our dog exactly where we want them to walk.
Your dog will be delighted to oblige,
When they understand our appropriate relationship -

Remember that LEADERSHIP IS LOVE -

And when they understand what we are asking them to do -

Exactly where we are asking them to walk.
And then we repeat the same thing every time,
So that your dog forms a wonderful new pattern.
Of how to be with you,
And what you both do together.

You will both get so good at doing
The right thing together.

Believe me.

If you want my support send me a DM.

Love in Every Moment...

Hope this is helpful.

This really is my main message.

If I truly love my dog,
Then I’m going to put their needs first.

IF their needs are not the same as mine, Because we are completely different species - Well, once I am aware of this difference, And what my dog really might need, Then everything becomes simple:

I can learn to:

Understand Dog,
Think Dog, and Do Dog!

And because I’m seeing all the ways my dog is different to a human,

I don’t have to try to teach them right and wrong, Or train them in the same way, Or change their behaviour.

I just take care of MY behaviour, I do the right thing for them, with love in my heart all the time.

So it seems that it was the Human that needed training, all along!!
