Mat work is hign on my list of foundation skills!

If you want to get access to the details of how I train the first couple of steps of matwork, then those lessons are currently inside my membership - Connect and Progress.

Fish is starting with learning his words - this was his first 'formal' session with me. I use 'bop' to tell him that the food will be appearing on a target. We also did a little bit of 'take', where he gets the treat from my hand.

Our total session was less than four minutes - plenty for a baby brain!

You get very good at putting 'stuff' away when there's a puppy about 💕

We said a final goodbye to Ripley yesterday.

This is one of my favourite photos of him - it shows how he truly lived up to his name 'Talented Mr Rip'. In one year he gained achievements in agility, scentwork, rally, parkour, tricks, gundog training and so much more. He went on to gain more, adding in Movement Puzzles in more recent years.

I am the trainer I am today because of him 💕 We learned so much together, and he will live on in both my book and the many, many training videos in my courses.

They are not my people!

I would love to teach a regular Movement Puzzles class in the Torbay area, but not sure how much interest there is?

In Movement Puzzles we use exercises that focus on body awareness, coordination and balance. All these exercises are done in motion, while the dog moves from one bowl to another (we call it the 2 bowl game).

We can completely remove handler movements and cues that are just distracting for the dog. Instead, by using the 2 bowl game, the dog can focus solely on how to best use his/her body in the specific setup, how to coordinate the movements, how to control his body without worrying about our (handler) movements, our cues, how they will get the reinforcement (it will always be in a bowl!) etc.

This may sound simple, but there's a lot more to it than initially meets the eye! Movement Puzzles are great for building confidence, and can have a very positive impact for reactive dogs.

The video shows my dogs working on a relatively advanced setup.

Version two of the pivot pod has been designed and printed. Still some tweaks to be made, but this version is securely stackable and slightly larger. Both dogs need a bit more practise stepping over poles 😂
