Fantastic morning of training in Porthcawl!

This morning we were out working with a few of our regular dogs, each progressing towards their individual goals.

• Arres – working on calmly passing other dogs without reacting.
• Dougal – a friendly, overexcited dog learning to stay calm around people and other dogs.
• Hunter – continuing to build neutrality and confidence around other dogs.

Reactivity isn’t something that’s “fixed” overnight. It’s about building the right skills, creating positive experiences, and helping dogs make better choices in real-world environments.

Really pleased with everyone’s progress today. Consistency pays off. 👏

What a Mantrailing Introduction!

Everyone was fantastic, and the progress from both the dogs and their handlers by the end of the session was incredible.

We had a great mix of breeds joining us on Sunday’s Introduction:

• Jasper – Cavapoo x
• Ollie – Mixed breed
• Bax – Lurcher x Collie
• Tiberius – German Shepherd, 4 months old 😍
• Callie – Collie x
• Sherlock – Bloodhound, 7 months old 😍

You should all be really proud of what you achieved. It was brilliant to see so many teams grow in confidence throughout the morning, and we can’t wait to see you all again on the Progression Sessions.

If you missed this Introduction Workshop, don’t worry. Our next Introduction Workshop is on 20th September, giving you the chance to discover just how capable your dog can be while building confidence, teamwork and a stronger partnership together.

Spaces are limited and always fill quickly, so don’t leave it too long to book.

Let’s talk about this weather! ☀️🐶

With another week or so of warm weather ahead, now’s a good time to think about helping our dogs cope with the heat.

One thing I’d recommend is a good quality cooling coat. The two I’ve seen and been impressed with are the Ruffwear Swamp Cooler and the Non-stop Dogwear Cooling Vest.

They won’t make it safe to walk in the heat of the day, but they can help your dog stay cooler on early morning or late evening walks, when temperatures are lower but humidity can still be high.

Another bit of kit worth considering is an Aluminet shade sheet. If you’re parking up to walk, it helps reflect the sun and keeps your vehicle cooler while you’re out.

Every dog is different, so always assess the conditions and your own dog before heading out.

Have you found any cooling products that actually work? Let me know in the comments!

Another fantastic morning mantrailing at Cosmeston Lakes!

This time we ventured over to the medieval village, making good use of the huts and even the stocks! 😆

I’m so proud of the progress everyone is making. It’s brilliant to see both dogs and handlers growing in confidence with every session.

If you’re looking to get started, there’s just one space left on our next Introduction session. We also have a few July progression dates with spaces remaining and our August dates go live on Wednesday at 7:00am 🕖

Fantastic morning at Smiling Woods Mantrailing!

We had a range of abilities attending today, so it was great to have plenty of flexibility with trail distances. Everyone did an amazing job and is progressing so well!

This year has been a bit of a rollercoaster when it comes to dogs.

We’ve lost dogs that we’ve had the privilege of looking after over the years, and personally I’ve had the heartbreak of losing Ellie just a couple of months ago, alongside everything Daisy has been going through with her treatment.

Hearing about dogs being poorly really makes you stop and think. It reminds us that we need to make the most of every day we have with them, because you never know what’s around the corner.

So if you’ve been thinking about trying a dog sport, do it. If you’ve been talking about taking a holiday with your dog, book it. Make those memories, enjoy those adventures, and cherish every moment together.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. ❤️

I get asked all the time what healthy dog play actually looks like.

I managed to catch a little clip of Buddy and Pretzel having a game of chase, and it’s a great example of two dogs communicating well and reading each other.

When we watch the video, we can see lots of positive play signals. The chase flows naturally, both dogs are responsive to each other, and there’s plenty of communication throughout.

You’ll notice that Buddy enjoys doing the chasing more than being chased. When Pretzel puts a little pressure on him during the chase Buddy communicates this clearly and Pretzel responds appropriately. This is exactly what we want to see. Dogs expressing themselves and the other dog listening.

Good play isn’t about dogs being perfectly balanced every second of every interaction. It’s about communication and both dogs being able to adjust their behaviour based on what the other dog is telling them.

What play style does your dog prefer? Being chased or doing the chasing? Let me know below 👇
