Using a licki mat here gives him a little distraction and something else to focus on. He's not comfortable having his legs done and lets me know by lip curling and looking at me. He also freezes. Can you see it? These small signs help me to slow it down and go at his pace 🐶👍

This is Rover, I've been grooming him for 14 years 😀 he's slowing down a little now and needs a lie down for certain parts of the groom.

I'm happy to oblige 👍 and give him that rest.

Jasper is such a sweetie 💕 though it took him a while to settle with me.
He was a nervous nipper and could bite when feeling threatened.

It took around 6 months to gain his trust and realise that I only needed to wait for him to tell me when he's ready for his groom to start.

I wait patiently for him to decide to walk into the bathing area and give me permission to help him into the bath, he either stands by it and looks for me to lift his bum in, or he jumps in himself.
If I was to pick him up before then or go to him and fetch him, he will turn and nip me as he's not ready, this would then upset him for the entire session.

He doesn't make me wait too long. Usually around 5-8 minutes 😅
I'm happy to give him that time and space for him to have a breather and get himself together ❤️

Watch and listen to the dogs. Look for the signs and listen to the whispers.
They are there if you are willing to see 👀😉

This little fellow feels a little uncomfortable having his pads and feet done. He's telling me by licking me and using a grumble. I keep giving short breaks and use the Liki Mat as a distraction for him. All in a days work ❤️🐶
