🥵 IF IN DOUBT DON'T GO OUT 🥵

Recognising the signs early and getting your dog to a lower, safer temperature can save their life.

SEEK IMMEDIATE VET TREATMENT IF YOU SUSPECT HEAT STROKE

Symptoms generally progress through three stages:

1️⃣ Mild to Moderate Heat Stroke
👅Excessive Panting: The primary way dogs cool down; however, distressed or noisy breathing indicates they are struggling to regulate their temperature.
😛Gum & Tongue Changes: Bright red or dark purple gums and tongue.
💦Drooling & Thirst: Thick, sticky saliva or foaming at the mouth.
💤Behavioral changes: Restlessness, pacing, or extreme lethargy.

2️⃣ Advanced Heatstroke
🤢Gastrointestinal Distress: Vomiting and diarrhea, which may contain blood.
😵Lack of Coordination: Staggering, unsteadiness, or weakness in the hind legs.
❤️Increased Heart Rate: Racing or pounding pulse.

3️⃣ Severe Heatstroke
🧠Neurological Collapse: Confusion, seizures, or falling into a coma.
😲Organ Failure: Signs of shock, unresponsiveness, or dark, minimal urine.

What to do: If you suspect heatstroke, act immediately. Call the nearest vet immediately

The Heatstroke Advice recommends cooling your dog down first with lukewarm water (avoiding ice-cold water, which can cause shock) and then safely transporting them to the vet.
