Spaniel (Clumber)
SBD 1, 1st Crittenden- Malbecmogs Tiger Eyes, Active 16mnth with head developing well having good breadth, he has clean Amber eyes, correct scissor bite, good shape of his clean ears but would prefer straighter hair coverage. This lad has moderate angulation both ends which balances him although I would like a little more. He has correct short limbs which are adequately b***d on round feet. With decent depth of chest & spring of rib & a super strong topline, close straight coat with more feathering to come which will complete the picture. Straight coming towards but a little erratic behind, I think would benefit with moving a tad slower until he muscles up more. Tail set low & carried horizontal.
VD,MPD,PD no entries.
JD repeat 1st in SBD,
PGD 1, 1st Guy- Suelynda Dream Dreamer to Jahanghir, Strongly made exhuberant lad of 18mnths. Love his heavy brows, deep stop & square muzzle. Strong thick neck leading to muscular sloping shoulders. He has good width all through, ok for bone. Good spring of rib & short strong loin. Great bend of stifle with well muscled rear, straight coat with feathering developing well, correct low set of tail giving carriage not above his back. Strong effortless mover although giving his handler a bit of a challenge RBD.
LD 1 1st Nesbitt- Creeaark Austin Healey from Charbrouille, Well balanced not yet 3 & maturing well. The best clean dark Amber eyes, correct dentition with well-developed flews. Nothing exaggerated anywhere on this boy. He has the best of shoulder angulation & rear to match. Super depth of body. Abundant straight close coat with feathering on chest, legs & tail. He is true in movement with a driving side gait he just flows effortlessly undoubtedly he could do a days beating, BOB.
OD 0. SBB,VB, MPB no entries,
PB 1,1abs.
JB 0, PGB 1, 1st Dawsons- Beskerby Flora Finching Jw, feminine 16mnth with a correct silky jacket over her adequate frame & sympathetically handled, good broad skull with brows developing, eye colour ok & plenty of depth of muzzle. She has large ears & good length of neck. Her shoulder placement is correct & I love her forechest. She has required length of back but a tad long in loin. Her topline is strong leading to a low set tail correctly carried. She has well bent stifles with low hock joints producing accurate footfall although firmer muscle tone would complete the picture, BB. LB, 2,2abs, OB 1,1. Such a shame so many absent girls but I was later given apologise as some were in season.

CLUMBER SPANIEL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

3 AUGUST 2025

To judge a breed club championship show is a great honour and I would like to thank the members of the Clumber Spaniel Club who nominated and voted for me and also the club for the invitation. I greatly appreciated the size and quality of the entry and thank the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs. Exhibits were generally well presented with only a couple who could have had cleaner ears. It was disappointing that there were no puppies entered at all and this has to be a worry for the future of our lovely breed. Thank you to Eunice, Gina and Sue who kept the ring running and to everyone for accepting my decisions so graciously. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

JUNIOR DOG (5) 1. Benge’s Wahnahnish Saint Giles (Imp Ned) Well presented 17 month old dog who is developing along pleasing lines. Has a lovely profile. Attractive head with clean eyes. POST GRADUATE BITCH (3,1) 1. Taylor & Hilton’s Delsaux Fly Me To The Moon- Attractive bitch. Head is developing well. Strong neck and sufficient front angulation. 2. Kirkman’s Kirkara Helga Hufflepuff Very feminine 2 yr old. Pretty head and expression. Good length of neck flowing into sloping shoulders. Well bodied. Firm quarters. Sadly she would not co-operate with handler and moved erratically.

LIMIT BITCH (6,1) 1. Kirkman’s Kirkara Minerva McGonagall- Litter sister to 2nd in PG and very similar remarks apply. Has a lovely profile and is a shade more mature than her sister. Appealed for type and balance. Presented in immaculate condition. Moved with drive. Was pleased to award her RCC

CLUMBER CRITIQUE
Welsh Kennel Club 15/8/2025
Many thanks to everyone who entered under me, this show has a lovely friendly atmosphere, but for many it is not an easy venue to get to. I really appreciated my cheerful stewards, for their help. To later in the day see my BOB win the Gundog Group, and then on Sunday go RBIS, was the icing on the cake.

JD (1 Entries)
1st CRITTENDEN, Mr C & Mrs S Malbecmogs Tiger Eyes
Balanced well made youngster, with good bone, well developed head with deep stop & strength in muzzle, clean eyes & ears, stands straight & tidy in front on round feet, plenty of ribbing for age, good length of body, and firm topline, needs to strengthen in loin, well developed rear, moved freely, although a little loose behind.
PGD (2 Entries)
1st LANGRIDGE, Mrs Jennifer B Next Editionadgersmoon
Presents a clean outline, within his frame, with excellent confirmation throughout, large square head with strong muzzle, clean eyes & well set ears, deep chest, stands tidy in front, on strong feet, strength through topline & body, good rear angles, would like more muscletone, sound action with plenty of drive.
2nd TILSTON, Mr David Maursett Menelaus.
Another balanced exhibit, not so mature as first in head, he has a defined stop & strong square muzzle, clean eyes & ears, well b***d tidy front, with firm feet, not so developed in body as first, rear well angulated, and good width to thighs, moved out o.k, not so accurate as first, fore or after.

LD (4 Entries)
1st MONAGHAN, Mr & Mrs P M & H D Kensesqui Nice At Tweedsmuir JW
Liked his overall construction & balance, just a bit more finished than second, large square head, with strong muzzle, clean expressive dark eyes, with heavy brows, super b***d forelegs & strong feet, muscular shoulders, strength through topline, wide well developed thighs, with strong hocks, moved true with sound free action.
2nd BLACKBURN, Mrs Claire & BLACKBURN, Mr Jonathan Suelynda Let Me Be The One JW
Well made throughout, a little shorter in body than first, & not so strong in loin at present, balanced head, with clean eyes, tidy straight front, well b***d forelegs with large feet, ribbed well back, developed rear, with good angulation, accurate front action, a little loose behind.
3rd WAREHAM, Mrs R & DUNSTAN, Mr S Maursett Melwyn

OD (3 Entries)
1st COX, Mr Lee Sh Ch Vanitonia Soloist DCC & BOB, later G1 & RBIS on Sunday.
What a special dog, so full of quality he moves at one with his handler, on a loose lead, just ups another gear going round the ring, a pleasure to watch, and so special to do it with a vulnerable breed.
Balanced throughout, with excellent strong bone, his head is large & square with deep stop & strong muzzle, with expressive eyes, super bone to straight front, standing on large feet, clean through neck, with strong shoulders, super firm topline & muscular loin, powerful rear, with wide thighs, & strong hocks, presented in a silky coat, just denotes strength from head to tail, which he uses to his advantage, on his free flowing movement, with excellent footfall.
2nd LANGRIDGE, Mrs Jennifer Caramel Apple White Roll At Badgersmoon TAF NAF RDCC
Liked him for type, and overall construction, & strong bone, the best of heads, with defined stop, & strong muzzle, soft expression, clean eyes & ears, stands tidy in front, on firm round feet, deep chest, liked his length & strength of back, with muscular loin, wide thighs, with good angulation, topline held well on his free flowing movement, tidy front action, to be picky a little close behind.
3rd BODEN, Mr & Mrs D K & S L Suelynda Boom Bang A Bang
Super type, I have admired before, just giving a lot away here in age,

I liked her overall conformation, & balance, super feminine head & expression, with clean eyes, & ears, tidy front with ample bone, would prefer stronger feet, good length & strength of neck, well placed shoulders & ribs carried well back, strength through body & topline, still rather soft in loin, well developed rear with good angles, moved out soundly, holding her topline.

PGB (4 Entries)
1st JEFFERIES, Mrs Kelly & JEFFERIES, Mr James Abbyford One Seren Ash Of Jubilwell RBCC.
Good honest bitch, presenting a super clean outline, although lacking coat, her sound effortless movement, on an excellent stride earned her this place, she holds herself so well going round the ring, her head was balanced, with deep stop & strong muzzle, but still feminine, with clean eyes, & ears, strength through neck, & strong shoulders, tidy front with ample bone, well ribbed, good length of body, still needs to strengthen in topline & loin, muscular well angled rear, & strong hocks, definitely looked firm & fit, needs a jacket to finish the picture.
2nd TAYLOR, Mr James & HILTON, Mr Michael Delsaux Fly Me To The Moon.
Well proportioned head, with plenty of work to it, just preferred the expression of first, she had clean eyes & ears, stands tidy in front with good bone, clean through neck, with strong shoulders, ribs carried well back, and she was firmer over loin than first, tidy front action although a little close behind.

1st MONAGHAN, Mr & Mrs P M & H D Sh Ch Tweedsmuir She's So Sheek BCC.
Super balanced bitch from any angle, with excellent conformation & substance, her head & expression is to die for, so feminine but still the classic Clumber lines, clean eyes & ears, well b***d tidy front standing on strong round feet, excellent length of neck, with strength through body, topline & loin, well developed muscular rear, with good angulation, presented in tip top condition throughout, in a silky coat, although very sound, fore & after, with excellent driving action, she just lacked a bit of sparkle on the move today, in the challenge.
2nd LANGRIDGE, Mrs Jennifer Badgersmoon She's Guinevere
Well made throughout, with a lovely disposition, very feminine in head, deep stop, with strength through muzzle, clean eyes & ears, well b***d forelegs & strong feet, she has strength through body topline, & loin, broad stifles, with well muscled quarters, good angulation, although sound at both ends couldn’t match the movement of first here.

Spaniel (Clumber)

Many thanks to the society for the invitation to judge, to the exhibitors for a super entry and my two stewards Eunice and Chris for keeping everything running smoothly.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day and was pleased with the depth of quality since I last judged the breed 4 years ago, that said I did find some exhibits with untypical heads, narrow in foreface therefore lacking strength in their jaw. A small number had eyes which looked sore, but ears were mostly clean. Mouths were typically good; I did find a couple undershot.

Delighted to award her the RCC and I’m sure she has a promising future. 2 Nixon’s Knockhalon Put A Spell On You at Glenbruetti lots to like about this girl, pleasing head but preferred expression of winner, ample body and ribbing, carries a firm topline and very sound on the move 3 Wilson’s Vanitonia Some Like It Hot at Winhampton

Muzzle square with well developed flews. Dentition, correct, clean and complete. Neck of good length leading to well laid shoulders and corresponding upper arm. Short, straight forelegs with excellent bone and big round feet. Ribcage is well sprung. Moderate bend in stifle. Excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly on a good stride.
2ND Crittenden, Mr C & Mrs S, Malbecmogs Tiger Eyes: Pleasing dog of 15 months of age. ): Good overall balance. Well shaped head with deep stop and well developed flews. Neck of good length with well laid shoulders with equal length of upper arm. Well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters – I would have preferred a little more bend of stifle. with. Excellent bone with large round feet. Moved accurately fore and aft but not with the fluidity of my first placed exhibit.

1ST Nicholson & Risk, Mrs J & Mr S & Miss A, Jacquelyn & Nicholson, Mr Stuart, Knockhalon Spooktacular Of Taranstigh: Male of 21 months of age. Beautifully presented and shown. Presents a typical outline. Head large and square with deep stop and large vine shaped ears. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulders and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest with good length and spring of ribcage. Strong hindquarters with well laid stifles. Strong in front pasterns. Excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly and well on a good stride.
2ND Husbands, Mrs B & Mr C, Bebecova Quicksilver: Good overall balance - slightly lighter in frame than the winner but still plenty enough of him and carrying too much weight over the shoulders for me. Head large and of good breadth with large vine shaped ears. Not quite the length of neck as the winner nor the length of upper arm. Good length and spring of ribcage into muscular loin. Muscular hindquarters with well bent stifles and hocks well let down. In good coat. Moved Soundly.

1ST Nesbitt, Mr G J & Mrs L A, Creeaark Austin Healy From Chabrouille: Extremely pleasing quality male. Presented and shown to a very high standard. Liked him for his type and outline – he caught my eye upon entering the ring. I particularly liked his head which is large and square and masculine with a deep stop and strong muzzle with well developed flews. Eyes clean and very expressive. Chest of good depth with forelegs placed well under the body. Good length and spring of rib. Hindquarters well muscled with good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Excels in bone - short straight forelegs with big round feet. Excellent coat and condition. Moved true fore and aft and showed a good length of stride when viewed in profile. My pleasure to award him the Reserve Dog Challenge Certificate.

2ND Pickering, Mrs J, Wahnahnish Superman Of Hajacan (IMP NLD) (Ai): Upon my hands-on assessment of this male, I had real concerns about his eyes, which looked extremely sore. Presented a typical outline. Head large and square with deep stop and large vine shaped ears. Clean neck – that could have been a little longer - leading to well laid shoulders and corresponding length of upper arm. For me, he was carrying too much weight over his shoulders. Deep chest with good length and spring of ribcage. Strong hindquarters. Stifles, which were a little straight. Excellent coat presentation and condition. Moved soundly.

1ST Wareham, Mrs R, Suelynda Dream On: An outstanding bitch of just 17 months of age. A truly lovely bitch with excellent breed profile, clean lines and breed type. Large, square head with deep stop. Clean, expressive eyes and square muzzle. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm placing forelegs well under the body. Good depth of chest leading to well sprung ribcage of good length. Powerful hindquarters with well bent stifles and hocks low. Excels in bone and large round feet. Coat of excellent texture and presented to perfection. Whilst being a strongly made bitch, she retains her femininity. She moved accurately both fore and aft and showed a good length of stride when viewed in profile really using her backend to advantage. Handled to absolute perfection. My absolute pleasure to award he the Bitch Challenge Certificate and Best Of Breed.

1ST Wareham, Miss L, Tweedsmuir Moonflower: A very nice bitch. Excellent overall balance and presentation. Her head is well proportioned with good breadth of skull and square muzzle. Clean eyes and deep stop. Good length of neck leading to very good forehand construction with the shoulders well laid back and corresponding length and return of upper arm. Chest of good depth. Ribcage long and well sprung. Hindquarters are strongly made with nicely bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moved soundly and accurately with her excellent handler.

2ND Taylor, Mr J & Hilton, Mr M, Delsaux Fly Me To The Moon: Of different overall type to my class winner. She presented loaded and over weight over her shoulders, which gave the distinct impression of her being short in neck. Feminine head with deep stop and well developed flews. Good forehand assembly. Good length of ribcage. Would like a little more bend in stifle. Excellent bone and large round feet. In very good coat. Moved out soundly.

1ST Monaghan, Mr P M & Mrs H D, SH CH Tweedsmuir She’s So Sheek: A beautiful type of bitch, presented and shown well to advantage. Disappointingly, this bitch was overweight across her loin and very over weight over her shoulders, which spoilt what I can only imagine would have been a very nice outline. In every other respect, she excels. Large, square head with deep stop. Clean eyes and square muzzle. Good length of neck leading to very good forehand assembly with forelegs well under the body. Good depth and width of chest leading to well sprung ribcage of good length. Powerful hindquarters with well bent stifles and hocks low. Excels in bone and large round feet. Coat of excellent texture. She moved accurately both fore and aft.

2ND Nixon, Miss C, Stonielea Williams Charm At Glenbruetti: Well balanced all through. Broad skull with deep stop and square muzzle. Good length of neck into well placed shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest. Good width of chest and spring of rib. Strong in loin leading to well muscled hindquarters with nicely bent stifles and low hocks. Good bone and large round feet. Moved soundly with good drive.
