Friday Fun πŸ˜ƒ Here are the answers to Poor Bob is in a pickle!!! He has lost his bit 😱 Which one should he use? But... which one does he prefer? πŸ€” πŸ’œ

Q1 - which bit should he try?
βœ… E - the full cheeks will support his lateral flexion and the mouthpiece's slim design will fit in his mouth. The two copper rollers in the centre barrel might bug him so a plain barrel would be an alternative. The roller encourages the head carriage to come down onto the bit and seek the contact, good for when he shoves his nose into air. Independent side action will help with steering and lifting a shoulder. Downside? He leans on this, even though it is thinner, he manages to set his jaw against it and then refuses to listen. He twiddles with the barrel when he is bored.

Q2 - which bit does he prefer?
βœ… F - this bit goes somewhat against his anatomy as it is the 16mm thick mouthpiece but he works nicely in it. He likes the stability of the eggbutt cheeks and the size and weight of the bit gives a good contact down the reins. The eggbutt cheeks are rounded against his face and corners of his mouth so there are no harsh edges rubbing him. Mouthpiece is simple for him and he seems to prefer the Salox to stainless steel. Downsides? It is a heavy bit and he can grab hold of it when I want him to walk forwards on a loose rein.

Interestingly, his first bit was the NS universal as he liked the mouthpiece but I only used the snaffle ring and it took a teeny bit longer for the rein to engage, also not dressage legal, not that we are planning anything like that for a while πŸ˜‚

Quite a bit of Bob's reactions to bits is behavioural, although he has been schooled after racing he is easily bored and distracted and the first thing to get his attention is his bit (second is to turn round and try to bite my foot or grab his reins).

How did you get on?

If you want to know why he doesn't like the others, or why I don't, let me know and I'll do a deep dive into things πŸ˜€

5 years ago Flying Hooves became an official thing!

Rather happy with how it's turned out and... how it’s evolving! Ever evolving πŸ˜‚ πŸ’œ

It's been a rollercoaster, from just massage for 4 horses a month to over 40 for bodywork, bits, bridles, reiki, courses and more! From full time employment to self-employed (and highly likely to be no longer employable 🀣) I am extremely grateful for this life πŸ’–

So, a HUGE thank you to each and every one of you for coming along for the ride πŸ₯° Olivia at Wolds Equine Sports Massage Approved Courses, Gill at Horse Bit Advice, Chelsey Sturgeon Holistic Therapy Training School, my clients, your horses, my followers, my family and friends, and my cheerleading squad, you all know who you are 😍 Love you all!!

And, finally, thank you to Miss Cordelia, my Cordy, without whom this journey never would have happened πŸ’• 🐎

PS don't forget to enter my birthday competition for a Henry James crystal browband!!

πŸ₯° 3 of my gorgeous regulars from yesterday πŸ’ they all thoroughly enjoyed their treatments, not so sure about the assessment part of things πŸ˜‚

Jaffa has gone back to her usual treatment routine after adding back shoes has given her more support and activated β€œsports cob” mode! 🐎

Archie had a very special Henry James bridle fitting before his treatment and looked even more gorgeous 😍

Myrna was the best she’s been, maybe something to do with how much more relaxed she has become to ride since getting her Henry James bridle 😘

One of my favourite parts to my work is hearing what you’ve been up to between visits and there are always some good stories from these guys 😍

Friday Fun πŸ˜ƒ Poor Bob is in a pickle!!! He has lost his bit 😱 Which one should he use? But... which one does he prefer? πŸ€” πŸ’œ

Clues πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡

Bob has a small mouth with a lower palate and a wide tongue that's not that thick. He has normal lips for his breed (TB) with straight teeth, visible canines and narrow bars.

Bob struggles with lateral flexion, he can lean on the bit and steering can be akin to moving the Titanic. He tries to grab the bit if he is not happy, resulting in him poking his nose out and gurning. If the bit is too fussy it takes all his focus and he plays with it like a toddler on the swings.

Pop your answers below!

Q1 - which bit should he try?
Q2 - which bit does he prefer?

Extra kudos if you can tell me why!
