***** Reminder *****
The new law for dog owners starts today.
From Wednesday 18th March, updated laws on livestock worrying come into force in England and Wales.

Under the new rules, it is an offence if a dog chases, attacks, or causes distress to livestock. Importantly, the dog does not have to bite or injure the animal for it to count as livestock worrying.

Livestock includes animals such as:
• Sheep
• Cattle
• Goats
• Pigs
• Horses
• Poultry

Police will also have stronger powers to investigate incidents, including the ability to seize dogs involved in attacks.
Penalties can include unlimited fines and compensation for farmers if livestock are harmed.
In areas around Bolton, where we have so many public footpaths pass through farmland, dog owners should ensure dogs are kept under close control and put on a lead where livestock are present.
This is simply to make people aware of the legal responsibilities when walking dogs near farm animals.
