🌟 Bertie’s Journey: From Silence to Freedom 🌟
Meet Bertie, a young Rottweiler who was born completely deaf. From the start, his owners Lisa & Warren poured their hearts into giving him the best life possible — attending all our training classes, learning hand signals, and building a beautiful relationship based on trust and consistency. ❤️
Bertie quickly picked up on hand signals and had brilliant recall — as long as he could see his owners. But there was one major challenge: once Bertie turned his back, there was no way to call him back. No sound. No voice. No way to get his attention.
Sure, we could have kept him on a long line for life — but why limit his freedom when there’s a better way?
That’s when myself and fellow trainer David from k9 Revolution Dog introduced the idea of using an e-collar — not as a punishment tool, but as a communication tool through feel, not sound. With thoughtful conditioning and clear guidance, we taught Bertie that a gentle tap on the collar meant “check in” or “look back.” Just like a tap on the shoulder.
The results? ✨ Incredible.
Bertie now enjoys freedom to run, sniff, explore and be a dog — safely and confidently, knowing his people can always get his attention when needed.
Let’s be clear:
❌ He’s not being zapped.
❌ He’s not shut down.
✅ He’s engaged, happy, and thriving.
When used correctly, with patience, skill and compassion, e-collars can be life-changing — especially for dogs like Bertie, who just needed a different way to stay connected to his world.
We couldn’t be prouder of this team — Lisa, Warren, Bertie, and everyone involved in his journey.
Here’s to deaf dogs living their fullest, freest lives. 🐾💪
