We’ve a lot of new followers recently, welcome! 👋

To clarify a few things, as Northern Ireland’s only dedicated reptile rescue, we take in and rehome unwanted reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.

Where we reasonably can, we will help hold stray reptiles until their owner reclaims them, or seek new homes for them if no owner is found.

🥼🩺We have had an influx of people asking us to provide medical advice and/ or treatments for their animals, particularly ones they’ve got free from selling sites. Only an RCVS registered veterinarian can do this, it is an offence for an unqualified person to give treatments or medications. We are happy to recommend vet practices in your area but we cannot and will not give out medical advice.

📋🚚We also have no powers to investigate reports of cruelty or neglect, we also cannot remove animals from neglectful situations. The only ones with the power to do this is your local council’s animal welfare officers. They have responsibility for all non-farmed animals, not just cats and dogs.

❌🏠We are unable to take in animals on the invasive species list, as to do so requires a licence that no rescue in NI currently holds. This includes king snakes and slider terrapins.

Every animal that arrives here at Northern Ireland Exotic Sanctuary deserves their second chance 💚

From neglected or abandoned reptiles, to animals needing urgent veterinary care, specialist heating, lighting, nutritious diets, rehabilitation and safe forever homes; every rescue comes with significant costs. Many of the animals in our care arrive frightened, unwell, underweight or suffering from poor husbandry, and your support helps us give them the care and future they truly deserve.

We rely entirely on the kindness of the public to continue our rescue, rehabilitation and education work. There are several ways you can help make a real difference:

🐍 Donate directly to support their daily care and veterinary treatment.
🦎 Purchase essential supplies from our The Reptile Realm or Amazon wish lists.
🐢 Place one of our collection tins in your own local business or workplace
🐊 Host an event or fundraising day in aid of the sanctuary

Every pound donated helps provide:
✨ Proper heating and UVB lighting
✨ Emergency and routine veterinary treatment
✨ Quality food and enrichment
✨ Safe enclosures for rehabilitation
✨ Proper homechecks and emergency intake space
✨ Educational outreach promoting responsible reptile ownership

Without your support, none of this would be possible. Whether you donate, share our posts, organise an event or simply spread awareness, you are directly helping vulnerable animals get the second chance they deserve.

Our fantastic participants are heading into their final week of running, walking and sniffing towards 50K this May.

Let’s have one final push to support them and cheer them on!

50K IN MAY

Every step you take this May can change a life.
Behind so many surrendered animals is a story we don’t always see; struggles with mental health, overwhelming life circumstances, and people doing their best but making that brave step in admitting they need help. When someone is struggling, even caring for a beloved pet can become too much.
Rescue itself is difficult and often fraught with an abundance of stress and exposure to horrible situations. Poor mental health is no stranger in rescue.
That’s where your support matters.

By taking on the ‘50K in May’ challenge, you’re helping provide safe sanctuary for animals who have lost their families and supporting vital mental health work for people who need it most.

And there’s something truly special about this mission…
Led entirely by you, whenever and however suits you best.
💚 Walk, run, jog, cycle, swim… something even more creative?💚 Move your body at least 50km throughout the month of May💚 Raise funds while raising awareness.
💚 Exercising will help boost your mood just as much as supporting two very important causes!

Do it for the animals.Do it for mental health.
Do it for your own health.Do it because small actions create real impact.

Sign up forms can be found on our linktree below as well as ways to donate directly to the rescue.
Individual sponsorship forms will be sent to participants a few days after signing up 📋
