Northern Ireland Cat Centre

Northern Ireland Cat Centre We are Cats Protection, the UK's largest cat welfare charity, based in Belfast. We're running solely on appointment basis.
(549)

If you have any questions, please give us a call! An adoption fee of £75 per adult cat and £95 per kitten is charged. This fee goes towards the care the cat has already received while at the adoption centre. On average the Belfast Adoption Centre spends approximately £150 - £200 on each cat in its care. Cats Protection does not receive funding from any government or lottery bodies and therefore re

lies on donations from the kind public and adopters to allow us to continue the vital work that we do. All adopted cats will have received the following treatments:

- A thorough veterinary examination
- Have received at least their 1st vaccination
- Treated for worms and fleas
- Neutered (if old enough)
- Microchipped

Adopters will also receive 4 weeks free insurance from Petplan upon adoption.

Meet Jojo💛

Jojo is 5 years old and is our rare beauty , she is a female ginger which is uncommon, she had a lovely home but unfortunately her owner passed away and she then spent her days as a stray before being brought into our care.

Jojo has feline asthma, she will require her new adopter to give her an inhaler twice a day, she tolerates this very well and it does not take long to do, she just need's to breath in her inhaler for 30 seconds and that's it done💕

Jojo is a sweet cat that could suit many homes and we would love someone to take a chance on her as she has been in our care for 128 days.

Please visit the website to apply to meet Jojo💜

Celebrating two amazing volunteers: husband and wife duo, John & Fay 🥰

When one of our lovely centre cats, Pilot, passed away in 2021 we planted a rowan tree in our memorial garden and had a decorative plaque made in remembrance.

Centre volunteer John kindly offered to put his woodworking skills to good use and produced a lovely weatherproof stand to display Pilots’ plaque. We are delighted with the results! It is such a fitting tribute to Pilots’ memory. Thank you John!

John and Fay have been volunteering with us for many years and have helped out in so many different ways, whether it’s through their years of gardening and helping create our memorial garden, knitting items for the cats (and for any human Cats Protection babies that come along!!), sewing blankets and covers for our maternity units, baking cakes for our open days or most importantly adopting cats that have been waiting and waiting for their forever homes. Their support means the world to us, and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Thank you John and Fay for all you’ve done, and continue to do, for us! You truly do have hearts of gold. ❤

Introducing our wonderful long-stay cats, each with a unique personality that can complement various family dynamics. Despite their unique personalities and potential to make wonderful companions, these felines often remain in the shadows and overshadowed by younger cats or kittens. These charming felines are ready to bring joy and warmth into your life. Adopting one of these brilliant cats means welcoming a new friend who will fit perfectly into your household🏡

The longer cats stay in shelters, the more difficult it becomes for them to adjust to a new home😢

Please visit our website to apply to come meet our cats.

Senior cats are often overlooked in shelters, adopting an older cat means welcoming a companion that is typically more settled and calm, making them ideal for various living situations, including quieter homes💕

These cats often come with established personalities, allowing potential adopters to find a perfect match for their lifestyle. By choosing to adopt a senior cat, you not only provide a loving home to an animal in need but also gain a loyal friend who can enrich your life with their unique charm and wisdom🐈

Neill💜

This handsome man is 4 years old and came into our care after spending his days on the streets, he was covered in scabs and a little underweight, after some TLC from our staff member's he was soon feeling great again. Neill has been reserved and let down twice and we have no idea why , he is a cuddly cat that loves to play, he does not like other cats so would need to be the only cat in the home, Neill needs safe outdoor access as this is what he is used to.

Please visit the website if you think Neill could be your new family member.

Meet Knox and Kali 💕

This delightful pair of bonded cats in search of a loving home together. At three years old, Knox has a sleek black , while Kali has a beautiful tabby coat. Both are indoor cats, thriving in a cosy environment where they can play and cuddle. They are both super friendly cats that love attention and to be petted🥰

Capturing the perfect photo of these two can be quite a challenge😂 they often have their own agendas, making it difficult to get them to look at the camera simultaneously. Their playful antics and unique personalities shine through, but it takes patience and a bit of luck to snap that ideal shot of them together.

If this pair would suit your home please visit the website to apply to come meet them.

Black cats often face an unfair stigma, yet they possess unique qualities that make them exceptional companions. Their sleek, elegant appearance and striking eyes can captivate anyone, while their playful and affectionate nature often rivals that of any other feline🖤

Unfortunately, many black cats find themselves in shelters, overlooked due to outdated superstitions and biases. By adopting a black cat, you not only gain a loving friend but also help break the cycle of discrimination, giving these wonderful animals the loving homes they deserve. Embrace the charm of a black cat and discover why they truly are the purr-fect addition to any family🐈

We have another extra special homing appeal to share with everyone today.

Sweet Taffy came into our care after a very tough period. She arrived severely overweight with two large open wounds, burns, and scarring. She could not use her legs at first due to her weight and severe matting, which is why almost all of her fur had to be shaved off. We were heartbroken to see her. She was shut down and not acknowledging anyone around her. The first photos are of Taffy shortly after she arrived.

Today, Taffy is a different cat. She is full of character and affection. She chats away to everyone who comes near her pen, and she gets so excited for any opportunity to cuddle. We've been encouraging movement, and she's successfully been losing weight and is becoming more active and mobile. The second group of photos are of Taffy now.

This 10-year-old girl has got a new lease on life, and we're so excited to give her the chance to live out the rest of her life happy, loved, and safe.

See the link below if you want to see what kind of home she requires:

Happy 20th Birthday to Luna!🎂

This little lady was adopted from the Northern Ireland Cat Centre in 2008 and yesterday she celebrated her 20th birthday!

Unfortunately, a lot of our staff were not here at the time Luna was in care but there may be some of you out there who remember this sweet girl. As you can see, Luna has been living her best life with her family over the past 17 years, and we thought that it was too cute not to share! 💕

Luna’s family have told us that there are many things in life that she enjoys such as sunbathing, M&S chicken and even climbing the Christmas tree over the years! Luna was a very nervous cat when she was first adopted, and we couldn’t be more chuffed to see how happy and thriving she is!

We would like to thank her family for getting in touch with us with this update after so many years and we hope Luna had the best birthday! 🥳

If you’ve also adopted a cat from us a long time ago, please feel free to share your story in the comments below!👇
