Tuesday Trails ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฟ

We set off this morning hoping the rain would stay away and armed with plenty of honey tea to help save my voice ๐Ÿฏโ˜•๏ธ

Our sniffari masters were first on the list and, as always, they made sure to take me down every winding path possible while following their noses. We also continued reinforcing some lead walking skills that one of our owners has been working hard on at home. Consistency is key when it comes to training, and we're always happy to support the hard work our owners are putting in between sessions ๐Ÿฉท

Our Furry CEO, Nala, was picked up just before lunch because after a rather mopey George yesterday, I wanted to make sure he got to spend some time with his bestie today. Safe to say he was much happier! ๐Ÿ˜‚ He even tried taking us down a path that led absolutely nowhere near his house, clearly hoping the adventure would continue.

Lincoln was equally pleased to see Nala and spent his walk leading us down a beautiful flowery trail, bouncing happily from one side of the path to the other ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿถ

Once Nala was dropped home, we headed off to see the girls, who were more than happy to spend their free run time chasing me, chasing birds and generally causing a little chaos. They also became completely fascinated watching a local farmer collecting hay bales in the neighbouring field. Oddly therapeutic for all of us really ๐Ÿšœ๐ŸŒพ

We finished the day with Nala requesting a little evening stroll of her own once we got home before settling in and getting everything ready for our one-to-one sessions tonight.

Another busy day filled with happy dogs, wagging tails and plenty of smiles ๐Ÿพโœจ

๐Ÿพ Does your dog stop every few steps to sniff?

Before you sigh and look at the clock, remember that sniffing isn't your dog being stubborn โ€“ it's your dog gathering information about the world around them.

For dogs, a walk isn't just about physical exercise. It's an opportunity to:
๐ŸŒฟ Explore their environment
๐Ÿง  Use their brain
๐Ÿ‘ƒ Process scents and information
๐Ÿ’œ Meet their mental enrichment needs

Sometimes the biggest sign your dog needs a sniff break isn't that they're tired physically โ€“ it's that they're tired mentally.

A slower walk with opportunities to sniff can help lower arousal levels, build confidence, reduce stress, and leave your dog feeling far more satisfied than simply marching from A to B.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science backs this up too. Research by Horowitz et al. (2019) found that dogs given opportunities to sniff during walks showed more optimistic behaviour in cognitive bias tests, suggesting sniffing may support positive emotional wellbeing. Other studies have highlighted the importance of olfactory enrichment in reducing stress and improving welfare in dogs.

Take a swipe through these 5 signs your dog might be asking for a little more time to follow their nose. ๐Ÿ‘ƒโžก๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ฌ Does your dog have a favourite sniff spot? Let me know in the comments!

A busy Monday at Nala's Trails ๐Ÿพ

While the gang were out exploring, sniffing and enjoying their adventures, the CEO had other plans...

Nala decided today was for resting. ๐Ÿ’œ

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our dogs isn't another walk, another game or another training session. Sometimes it's simply giving them the space to recharge.

Every dog is an individual, and meeting the dog in front of you means recognising when they need adventure and when they need rest.

Today was a reminder that both are important. ๐Ÿพ

How does your dog like to spend their perfect day?

Manic Monday ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฟ

Busy, busy, busy today!

We kicked off the morning with our sniffari masters making sure to investigate every new smell the overnight rain had left behind. Noses were down, tails were wagging and Stanley was busy keeping watch in between sniffing missions ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿถ

Logs quickly became stepping stones as everyone searched for the best scents, and there were plenty of giggles along the way. It's amazing how much joy a simple sniffari can bring ๐ŸŒฟ

A quick coffee stop was definitely needed mid-morning as my allergies are doing their best to steal my voice โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿคง Then it was time to head out with our lunchtime gang.

George was not impressed to discover that Nala was having a rest day and wouldn't be joining him today ๐Ÿ˜‚ He eventually decided to take matters into his own paws and headed down to the stream to enjoy some quiet time himself. Meanwhile, the girls enjoyed their free run session, mixing games of hide and seek with plenty of foraging fun.

By late lunch, the rain had started to appear again, but that didn't stop the adventures. We spent time frolicking through a beautiful field of buttercups, running, exploring and taking in everything around us ๐ŸŒผ Their happy faces really did say it all.

While we were out and about, our Furry CEO Nala was enjoying a very well-earned rest day at home. Her schedule consisted of sofa cuddles, people watching from the front door, belly rubs and playing with her toys ๐Ÿฉท

It's important to remember that dogs need time to rest, recover and decompress too. Rest days are just as important as adventure days.

We finished up with some one-to-one sessions, meal prep and now it's time to get some content sorted before finally putting our feet up for the evening.

Does your dog have a favourite way to spend a rest day? Let us know below โฌ‡๏ธ

Saturday Strong Day ๐Ÿพโœจ

Saturdays are all about Puppy Academy, pre-arranged walks and making sure our Furry CEO, Nala, gets her own appointments squeezed in too! With weekdays being so busy, Saturdays have become our day for catching up and focusing on all the little extras.

This week our Puppy Academy headed outdoors for a practical lesson, putting everything we've been working on over the past few weeks into real-life situations. We practised road safety, handling traffic noise, navigating single-track lanes and learning how to safely enjoy the world around us.

One thing I always tell my puppy owners is that socialisation isn't just about meeting people and other dogs. It's about helping puppies experience the world in a positive and confident way ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿถ

We definitely picked the right day for it too! Normally when we walk down the single-track lane, we never see a car, but today we had plenty of opportunities to practise our "Hop It Up" and "Middle" cues to keep everyone safe. And little Sadie? She decided she was so relaxed by the end that chilling out was the best option ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฉท

The rest of the morning was spent organising next week's schedule, fitting in a one-to-one session and then taking Nala off to the groomers for a well-deserved pamper. She might not look freshly groomed because I love keeping her natural fluffy look, but Karen always makes sure she's looking and feeling her best โœ‚๏ธโœจ

We finished the day with a pre-scheduled walk, making sure our furry friends had a chance to stretch their legs and enjoy a toilet break before we wrapped up for the weekend.

Now it's time for an evening of crafting for me while Nala catches up on her beauty sleep like the princess she believes she is ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿถ

What do you think is the most important thing for puppies to learn when they're young? โฌ‡๏ธ

Funday Friday ๐Ÿพโ˜๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

We set off this morning with grey clouds overhead but the promise of sunshine later in the day, so we made sure everything was planned around keeping our furry friends cool and comfortable. Extra water was packed, shady routes were chosen and the adventures began ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ฆ

The morning was all about our sniffari masters, taking their time to investigate every smell and catch up on all the overnight neighbourhood news. Betsy especially looked beautiful amongst the buttercups, and we managed to capture some lovely photos for mummy along the way ๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŒผ

The afternoon saw us out with Mokee, helping to reinforce her lead walking skills while also making sure she had plenty of opportunities to sniff and explore. Consistency is key, and she's doing brilliantly with all the hard work mummy is putting in ๐Ÿฉท

Meanwhile, Lincoln was fully committed to his sniffari mission, with his constantly wagging tail and enthusiastic bum nearly taking out anyone who got too close ๐Ÿ˜‚

As the temperatures started to rise, we stuck to woodland routes where there was plenty of shade. Bodie seemed particularly happy with the peace and quiet, enjoying a slower-paced wander through the trees ๐ŸŒณ

The girls loved their free run session before deciding it was time to help daddy enjoy some quiet time. After all, even the busiest adventurers need a little relaxation ๐Ÿ˜ด

We finished the day with our Furry CEO, Nala, enjoying her very own solo adventure. She got to choose where we went, what we did and how long we stayed. There were zoomies, free run time, plenty of games and lots of giggles along the way. Looking at that smile, I think it's safe to say she had the best day ๐Ÿถโœจ

Now it's time for some one-to-one sessions this evening and final preparations for our Puppy Academy walk tomorrow.

What does your dog love most on a walk โ€“ sniffing every blade of grass, splashing through water or zooming around with their friends? โฌ‡๏ธ

I gave ChatGPT a picture of me a d Nala and asked it to create a cinematic image of me and Nala, and while I was expecting something pretty, I wasn't expecting it to make me feel quite so nostalgic ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿพ

Looking at it, all I can think about is where it all started.

Back when it was just me and a little red cocker spaniel figuring life out together. Before the business. Before the Puppy Academy. Before the products, the hikes, the events and the amazing community that has grown around Nala's Trails.

Nala was there for all of it.

Every early morning walk.
Every lesson learned.
Every challenge overcome.
Every adventure that made us both a little braver.

What started as a love for one dog became a passion for helping other owners build stronger bonds with theirs.

It's strange looking at a generated image and seeing so many real memories reflected back at you.

We've come a long way, furry CEO. And honestly? I wouldn't change a single part of the journey. ๐Ÿ’œ

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, trusted me with your dogs, supported my small business, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines.

Here's to many more adventures together.

Tara & Nala ๐Ÿพ

Building bonds, one adventure at a time.

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ HOT WEATHER & DOG SAFETY ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

As much as we all love getting outside in the sunshine, warmer weather can become dangerous for our dogs much faster than many people realise. Dogs cannot regulate heat the same way we do, and heatstroke can sadly become fatal in a very short amount of time.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Pavements can become MUCH hotter than the air temperature.
Even when it feels โ€œfineโ€ to us, the ground can burn your dogโ€™s paws within seconds. A simple rule to remember: โœ‹ If you cannot hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 5โ€“7 seconds, it is too hot for your dog to walk on.

๐Ÿถ Dogs most at risk include:
โ€ข Flat-faced breeds
โ€ข Puppies and senior dogs
โ€ข Overweight dogs
โ€ข Dogs with thick coats
โ€ข Dogs with underlying health conditions

๐Ÿ’ฆ What you can do to help keep your dog safe:
โœ”๏ธ Walk early morning or later in the evening
โœ”๏ธ Stick to shaded or grassy areas where possible
โœ”๏ธ Carry fresh water on every adventure
โœ”๏ธ Avoid intense exercise in warm weather
โœ”๏ธ Watch for signs of overheating such as:
Heavy panting
Excessive drooling
Lethargy
Vomiting
Wobbling or collapse

๐Ÿšจ If you suspect heatstroke: Move your dog somewhere cool immediately, offer cool (not ice cold) water, apply cool water to their body, increase airflow with a fan if possible, and contact your vet urgently.

Remember โ€” missing one walk will never harm your dog, but walking in unsafe temperatures can.

Our travel bottles with detachable bowls are perfect for keeping fresh water with you on every adventure ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿพ

Thursday Trails ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

We set off this morning a little earlier than usual after seeing the forecast was set to be another warm one ๐ŸŒก๏ธ We also made sure the wellies were packed because after last nightโ€™s heavy rain we knew muddy patches were definitely going to make an appearance ๐Ÿ˜‚

Our first walk still had the distant rumble of thunder in the background, but thankfully the rain stayed away which meant Vinnie could enjoy his sniffari in peace without getting soaked. The dark clouds did make for some very moody photos for mummy though ๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ

Our Furry CEO joined us on the rest of the morning walks while we made sure everyone was safely finished before the peak heat arrived. There were plenty of sniffaries, the occasional jump into puddles, shady breaks hidden amongst the trees and, of course, lots of foraging fun ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ฆ

The girls loved their free run session in the large garden, although with the grass starting to burn from the heat I had to get a little more creative with our hiding games this time ๐Ÿคฃ Somehow they still always manage to find me. We also made good use of the paddling pool to help everyone stay cool while having fun.

We finished the walks with little Willow enjoying a confidence-building stroll alongside Nala ๐Ÿฉท She seemed so happy following her furry bestie around and exploring together.

Nalaโ€™s brand new sunbed finally arrived today and we even had enough time to build it before heading off to our one-to-one sessions this afternoon โ˜€๏ธ Although she was absolutely determined to sunbathe directly in the hottest spot possible despite my protests ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hopefully tomorrow is a little cooler, and donโ€™t forget to check out our recent hot weather tips post if youโ€™re unsure about safe temperatures and timings for walking your dog ๐Ÿถ

Wednesday Wanders ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒค๏ธ

With the weather a little cooler than the past couple of days, we set off at our usual time for walks today ๐ŸŒฟ Making sure our more sensitive friends were first on the list, everyone stayed safe while still enjoying a morning full of sniffaries and fresh air ๐Ÿถ

Our Furry CEO joined in with her friends, making sure there was plenty of mischief, some sneaky dips in the streams and of course, all the classic Sniffari fun. Life really is never ordinary with her around ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ฆ

After a few days off, the girls had the best time during their free run session in the garden, zooming through the long grass, playing hide and seek and helping me find the shade under the trees ๐ŸŒณ We even managed to sneak in some pretty photos to send to mummy ๐Ÿ“ธ

We finished the day with our Furry CEO enjoying a late lunch stroll around the lodge before getting ready for some one-to-one sessions. She was a little unimpressed her new sunbed hasnโ€™t arrived yet, so no sunbathing todayโ€ฆ hopefully itโ€™s ready by tomorrow โ˜€๏ธ
