July was another impactful month for our teams as we continued to tackle food and organic waste head-on, all in the name of a healthier planet.

From food waste bin collections to advanced composting and liquid waste treatment, we’re proud to contribute to a circular economy that gives resources a second life.

📈This month, Bio Bee food waste collections rose by 7.5%, reaching 89,706 kg, a clear sign that the Simpler Recycling government lead campaign is gaining serious traction.

💧 We also treated 18.1% more liquid waste, totalling 38,069 tonnes, thanks to the influx of waste from Glastonbury Festival.

We had a fantastic time at last week’s summer BBQ! ☀️🍔

It was also a great excuse to celebrate James, our Water Recycling Bioresources Director, for an incredible 25 years of service. From his early days in our street works team to leading our bioresources team, James has been a driving force behind so many positive changes. His passion, leadership, and commitment to the community are truly appreciated.

📋 Audit: Wrapped!

Last week, LRQA, our certification body, conducted an annual surveillance audit against the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001standards and as always, it was a valuable opportunity to reflect, refine, and reinforce our commitment to our customers, our legal obligations and sustainability goals.

A big thank you to our compliance and risk assurance team for their support throughout the process, to our food waste team, and to LRQA for the thorough review for assurance that we continue to meet international best practice.

Now, back to doing what we do best, reducing waste, continually improving, and making sustainability more than just a buzzword.

Wessex Water’s £100 million expansion of the Bristol Water Recycling Centre is progressing fast, and we’re excited to see how this major investment will improve operations across the site.

This investment supports:
✅ Greater capacity for a growing region
✅ Enhanced environmental protection
✅ New storm tanks to reduce pressure on the network during heavy rainfall
✅ Continued innovation in sustainable waste treatment

We were thrilled to welcome one of our valued BioBee customers, Reconomy UK, to Bristol Treatment Works!

Charlie led the visit, showcasing everything from our innovative processes to the wider sewage treatment operations. A key highlight was discussing how we’re working together to treat food waste sustainably as part of a circular economy.

It was fantastic to discuss with the Reconomy team exactly what happens to the food waste we collect on their behalf—transforming it into renewable energy and valuable resources.
