The Petplan Veterinary Awards are such an important opportunity to recognise the people within the veterinary profession who dedicate their lives to caring for animals 🐾

For so many of us, this is not “just a job”. Our lives revolve around our patients. Advocating for them, caring for them, nursing them back to health, comforting them, and supporting their owners through both the best and hardest moments.

We take it home with us, even when we try not to. The bad days stay with us. We never forget the patients we couldn’t save. And yes... we absolutely have our favourite patients too. We cannot help ourselves 💙

As a locum veterinary nurse, I’m proud to step into practices and support teams wherever I’m needed — keeping standards high and tails wagging.

Ever since I was little, I’ve been completely animal-obsessed — the child who stopped to greet every dog and tried to rescue any pet possible. My dad even befriended neighbours just so I could walk their dogs, and family friends would let me “borrow” their pets for the weekend 🐕💙 That love only grew, and it led me exactly where I’m meant to be: caring for animals as a veterinary nurse.

Here’s to every veterinary nurse making a difference every single day. You are seen, valued, and appreciated more than you know.

🐾 Calling All Animal-Loving Businesses! 🐾

We’re teaming up with a local veterinary practice to raise funds for two incredible causes — The Wildlife Alliance Hull & East Yorkshire and the Hull Animal Welfare Trust 🐶🦉

As part of our summertime fundraising event, we’re putting together a tombola and raffle stall, and we’d love your support!

✨ We’re looking for donations such as:

🐾 Pet-related items (toys, treats, accessories)
🐾 Gift vouchers or experiences (swim sessions, grooming, pet photoshoot etc)
🐾 Animal-themed goodies
🐾 Anything you think would make a pet (or their human!) wag with joy

I’m really proud to share that I’m now officially a Dog Friendly Clinic Advocate 🐾

The Dog Friendly Clinic Scheme, a collaboration between Dogs Trust and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association, is all about reducing the stress that can come with veterinary care and making visits as comfortable as possible for dogs, their owners and the team.

Most dogs will visit a vet many times in their lives. For some, that experience can feel overwhelming. When behavioural concerns are misunderstood or unsupported, it can lead to stress, frustration, safety risks and, in some cases, even impact the bond between dog and owner.

This certification means I’m committed to:
🐩 Applying behaviour led, low stress handling techniques
🐕 Increasing behavioural awareness within the clinics I work in
🐕‍🦺 Supporting owners with reliable resources and guidance
🦮 Advocating for calmer, kinder veterinary experiences

I locum across different practices, but this approach travels with me. Every consult is an opportunity to reduce fear, build trust and improve welfare.

Because great veterinary care is not just about treating illness. It is about protecting the emotional wellbeing of the dogs we are privileged to care for. 🐶💚
