Yes, SOME dogs can naturally swim, or at least have some natural swimming instinct (think - doggy paddle!)
However, you should never assume your dog can swim, if you haven't seen them swim before!🐾

Here are some things to consider:
🐶 How are you going to introduce them to swimming? Throwing your dog in because it's a spaniel, doesn't mean they will be a natural swimmer and trust us, they won't learn "in the panic".
🐶 How old are they? As dogs get older, they are less likely to naturally have the skills to swim due to not engaging all the muscles usually used, and reduced mobility. This is a skill easier to learn as a young dog or pup.
🐶 What breed are they? Some breeds are more likely to be natural swimmers, due to the webbed feet and water resistant coats. This doesn't mean they will definitely be a natural swimmer, but does give them a helping hand!

As an owner, it is important you know what a safe swim looks like, rather than just assuming they can swim 🛟 If you aren't sure, use a buoyancy aid and bring your dog to a safe, knowledgeable facility 💝
