Today the Netherlands have banned Scottish Fold and Sphynx cats. As of January 1st 2026 it will be illegal to breed, sell or buy one of these cats and those who are currently owned must be microchipped and cannot be shown at cat shows or events.

This decision has been taken because of the health problems these cats suffer and it is another example of how the countries of Northern Europe are currently leading the world in making legislative changes that make clear how unacceptable the breeding of animals with extreme conformations is.

Scottish Folds carry a genetic mutation which weakens the cartilage in their bodies. This gives them their ‘cute’ folded ears but it also causes debilitating arthritis that often results in them being euthanased very young because their pain cannot be controlled.

Sphynx cats have been shown to have the shortest life expectancy of all pedigree breeds of cat and also have an extremely high incidence of heart disease.

I am delighted to see this law and I hope more countries, including the UK, will look to it as an example to follow and build on.

January = holiday booking season!

If you are planning a holiday for a week or two I have very limited availability but there are a few longer gaps from mid to end of March and the same for April. There's one long gap at the end of August/beginning of September in one suite.

Apart from that it's looking like October onwards

For shorter stays, remember to check my pinned post on here where I have listed all the gaps between bookings. Should save you a bit of time and guess work when trying to book!

Loki, our cattery security guard, hopes you have all had a lovely Christmas. Now he's 11, he's decided that winter is not his thing, so stays mostly in the warm and dry, but if he does venture out it's over to the cattery to check out the treats cos they are better there than at home.

We love to celebrate a birthday here at the cattery and gorgeous Gucci, who was one of our first visitors when we opened in 2017, and has so far enjoyed 42 holidays with us 😳, is 17 today🎉
Happiest of birthdays scrummy boy! Gucci is a true gentlecat, with his soft quiet purrs and gentle nudges. Always an honour and a pleasure to look after. We love you Gucci Bear 🐻

Our Story

Abbotts View Farm Cattery is a new cattery rated as 5 * by both our local council and our customers. With just 10 luxury sized pens, situated on our alpaca and rare breed farm in rural Buckinghamshire, each pen has lovely views of the farm and, as we don’t have boarding kennels, it’s peaceful! The bedrooms are all individually thermostatically controlled to keep them warm in the winter, and all of the panels lift off the fronts and sides of the corridors for lots of air flow in the winter. All pens are divided by full height sneeze barriers with mesh fronts looking out onto our safety corridor and views of the farm.. We live on site with electric gates and cctv cameras so your pet’s safety is our priority, as is their comfort and welfare. We supply toys, cat litter, feed and as much fuss as they like. As a family run business we don’t have staff coming and going, and we get to know each cat really well. We can cater for kittens (once they have completed their initial vaccines), senior cats and those on medication. All of our pens are luxury sized, with plenty of room to roam, explore and relax.
