🐹 Deep Dive Friday 🐹
Meet Jasmine!

Jasmine is a spirited Syrian hamster with a cheeky wee face and so full of energy. She’s recently completed her assessment period and is thriving in foster care at our Scotland Branch. Her fosterers are enchanted—and we think her forever person will be too.

---

📖 Jasmine's Story

Arrival Date: Mid-September

Previous Owner: Jasmine was purchased for a teenager who quickly lost interest. She was left to her own devices and wasn’t getting the love or attention she deserved.

Condition on Arrival: Jasmine was originally believed to be male, a common mix-up with young hamsters. It wasn’t until she arrived at HAHR that we discovered she’s a female Syrian. She’s now been with us for just over two weeks and has passed her assessment with flying colours.

Since arriving at the Scotland Branch a week ago, Jasmine has been keeping everyone entertained with her boundless energy and expressive little face. She’s really blossoming and is ready to find a home that truly appreciates her.

---

👑 Personality & Behaviour

Temperament: Energetic, cheeky, and curious —especially when food is involved!

Activity Level: High—Jasmine is a wheel-running machine and loves to explore every inch of her enclosure.

Social Preferences: She’s attentive to voices and enjoys gentle interaction, especially during treat time.

Trust Building: Jasmine is getting used to being handled and responds well to calm, consistent engagement. She’s curious and bright, and with time she’ll grow even more confident.

Handling Style: Jug transfers are best for now, with petting during meals as a great bonding opportunity.

---

🏠 Housing Requirements

Cage Type: Barless enclosure recommended—like many female Syrians, Jasmine can be a bit of a chewer.

Enrichment Needs:

- Deep bedding for digging and burrowing

- A sturdy wheel for her marathon sessions

- Plenty of hides and clutter to climb over

- Sand bath for grooming and enrichment

- A variety of textures and tunnels to explore

---

🍽️ Food & Treats

Food Motivation: Strong —Jasmine will do just about anything for a piece of chicken.

Favourite Treats: Chicken is her top pick, but she also enjoys sunflower seeds and pea flakes.

Preferred Reward: Petting during meals and tasty treats—she’s happiest when her tummy and heart are full.

---

💡 Ideal Adopter

Jasmine would thrive with someone who:

- Can offer a spacious, barless setup with lots of enrichment

- Enjoys watching a hamster zoom around and explore

- Is patient and gentle with handling, and willing to build trust over time

- Appreciates a bold and bright personality

---

📢 Why Adopt Jasmine?

Jasmine is a joyful reminder of what rescue is all about—giving a second chance to a little soul who was overlooked. She’s bursting with energy, charm, and potential. If you’re looking for a hamster who’ll keep you entertained, melt your heart with her treat-loving antics, and grow into a confident companion—Jasmine might just be your perfect match.

📢 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland Branch Update 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 📢

Yesterday was a busy and exciting day at the Scotland Branch of HAHR! Team Scotland—made up of myself, my husband Robbie, and our wonderful new fosterer Heather—may only have five spaces, but we’re always thrilled to help the rescue and find loving homes for our hammies.

Robbie and I met Kimberly halfway between here and Manchester to collect six hamsters, helping to ease the pressure after a surge in recent surrenders. Thanks to some lovely adoptions here in Scotland, we were down to just wee Noodle (our sweet little robo), so we had room to welcome more.

Now, if you're doing the maths, you might wonder how six hamsters fit into four spaces—but we were delighted that two (Rhea and Pinto) went straight to their forever homes! 🥰

We’re now full up again with Noodle, Hazel, Daisy, Koda, and Jasmine—all settling in beautifully and sending their love from Scotland. ♥️🐹

🐹 Deep Dive Friday 🐹
Meet Bertie!

Bertie is a charming Syrian hamster with a cheeky streak and a lovely nature. Around 6 months old, he’s blossomed beautifully in foster care—and we think he’s more than ready to find his forever home. His foster mum is smitten, and we know someone out there will be too.

---

📖 Bertie's Story

Arrival Date: Late August

Previous Owner: Surrendered by someone who had taken in Bertie but could no longer give them the time they needed.

Condition on Arrival: Bertie arrived shy and uncertain, with a reputation for biting. He’d previously been housed with another hamster, which may have contributed to stress and behavioural challenges. We don’t have much info about his life before that, but we do know he’s made incredible progress since coming into rescue. With time, patience, and a safe space to thrive, Bertie has transformed into a curious, sweet-natured little guy who’s eager to engage.

---

👑 Personality & Behaviour

Temperament: Curious, cheeky, and surprisingly gentle.

Activity Level: Moderate—he’s active and inquisitive, especially during enclosure cleaning (he insists on helping!).

Social Preferences: Bertie enjoys interaction and has become quite the shoulder parrot—he’ll perch happily and explore from his human vantage point.

Trust Building: He’s come a long way from his early days. With consistent, gentle handling, Bertie now handles beautifully and hasn’t shown any signs of biting in foster care.

Handling Style: Scoop or hand transfers work well. He’s confident, calm, and enjoys shoulder time once he’s comfortable.

---

🏠 Housing Requirements

Cage Type: A spacious, secure setup with plenty of enrichment—barred or barless is fine, as long as it’s safe and stimulating.

Enrichment Needs:

- Deep bedding for burrowing and nesting

- A solid wheel for exercise

- Sand bath for grooming and play

- Hides, tunnels, and climbing opportunities to satisfy his curiosity

- A shoulder to perch on (optional, but highly recommended!)

---

🍽️ Food & Treats

Food Motivation: Strong—he’s food-focused and enjoys foraging.

Favourite Treats: like many hammies, Bertie likes his whimsies and seeds, but his foster mum says his favourite treat is just a bit of lettuce. He gets so excited over his lettuce that he happily snatches it out of her hand just to get a taste.

Preferred Reward: Interaction and exploration—he thrives when given space to roam and a human to engage with.

---

💡 Ideal Adopter

Bertie would thrive with someone who:

- Can offer gentle, consistent handling and a bit of patience during the adjustment period

- Enjoys interactive pets and doesn’t mind a hamster who thinks he’s a parrot

- Has a safe, enriched setup ready for a curious explorer

- Appreciates a hamster with a story and a sweet soul

---

📢 Why Adopt Bertie?

Bertie is a testament to what rescue can do. From shy and misunderstood to confident and cuddly, he’s shown us that trust can be built and personalities can shine. If you’re looking for a hamster who’ll perch on your shoulder, help with chores, and melt your heart with his gentle charm—Bertie might just be your perfect match.

🐹 💟This past weekend, the Scotland Branch of HAHR said a fond farewell to two of our lovely fosters - Nova and Tunnock.💟🐹

From the moment they arrived, these two stole our hearts with their charm, quirks, and boundless curiosity. They were delightful houseguests, and while we’ll miss their tiny feet pattering away on their wheels every evening, we’re absolutely thrilled to share that both have found their perfect forever homes.

Nova and Tunnock are off to begin their happily ever after with wonderful adopters who are just as smitten as we were.

Thank you to our amazing community for cheering us on—and to everyone who makes these happy endings possible. We couldn't do it without your support
