Problems of PL and their solution-Part 1

I hope some of you remember my post “The truth about PL”. In it I promised I’ll be sharing my PL experiences, problems I faced and how I was able to find solutions to those problems. The first and the biggest problem you will face in PL is going Out Of Stock.

OOS is the BIGGEST nightmare for any entrepreneur. Whether you are an established brand or a small business owner, OOS will have a great effect on your business. Now imagine, you have been working for months on your PL. Hunting, Sourcing, Patent, Freight forwarders all kept you on your toes. Finally after months of struggle you launch your product. Everything is going great, your products have started selling and gaining momentum day by day but one day you realize you will be going out of stock soon.

First few hours after the realization are the worst! But remember, where there is a will there's a way. Anyone who is a SEASONED entrepreneur will tell you forecasting is very important in this business. While you are at the planning stage of your launch make sure you donproper budgeting. take into consideration the monthly sale of your product. This way you can plan how often/when you should place the order for the next batch of your product. But this is what everyone do usually- game turned off when things are not the same way as planned.

Solution-

However, forecasting might not be enough in some cases. You might face situations where your shipment gets delayed, your inventory gets lost or your supplier fails to deliver on time so what to do in that case? Simple, keep some of your inventory at 3PL warehouses as backup. They will charge you for it but believe me you will prefer to pay the extra amount rather than losing your hard earned BSR.

𝗜𝘀 𝗣𝗟 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂?

Today I want to address a very important issue. I have been receiving queries in my inbox, related to amazon PL by many youngsters. I am glad to see young blood coming in this field however I have noticed that they are of the mindset where they are willing to drop everything and solely focus on amazon PL. My advice to all such excited youngsters is to 𝗡𝗢𝗧 make this mistake.

Please bear in mind that amazon PL is a business and like any other business it has its 𝗨𝗣𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡𝗦. You might read motivational posts by other sellers showing how they are earning hundreds and thousands of dollars each month. You might think these PL results are easy to come by, you can earn easy money through PL, you just need to put in some investment for the cash to start flowing in - so on and so forth. However none of this is true.

First off, PL should not be your first source of income. It can be your 2nd or 3rd source but 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. Your first first source of income can be anything- freelancing, service providing, a desk job as long as it is providing you with a stable source of income. If you have extra money saved only then I would advise you to invest it in PL if not then don't go for it. While investing in PL you should be prepared that there is a high chance of you losing the invested amount, which we all know can be a case in any kind of investment/business. (But i would say here PL investment is still better than any other typical businesses around you if done rightly).

𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱, I would also say that if you are young, have a stable source of income as well as enough extra cash for investment then yes you should go for PL. Being young blood you should ALWAYS be willing to take risks and invest in various ventures. You might end up losing your entire investment however it will be a learning experience for you and on the other hand it can be a life changing for you as well. Starting young, you will have a higher chance of success by learning from your mistakes.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 T𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗣𝗟

Few days ago I was having a discussion with someone regarding the PL business. He was under the impression that it is a “Passive Income” or in simpler words a fully automated business. Unfortunately this is not true, rather it is a full time job that needs your complete attention all the time. Why do I say this? Let me give you a few examples.

In a PL business you need to constantly monitor your inventory. Anyone who has even a little experience in PL knows going OOS has a HUGE effect on your product. We give our sweat, blood and tears to bring the product to the TOP, going OOS will make all the effort in vain.

You will need to keep an eye on the PPC campaigns, determining which campaigns are proving to be fruitful and which needs to be discarded. You will need to tweak your campaigns at least twice a week to ensure productivity.

Market analysis is another important factor, you will need to be on the lookout for new competitors and how to stay ahead in the game. There are other things like negative reviews, amazon suspending your listing, hijackers taking over etc.that you will require your attention on a daily basis as well.

Yes it might be possible to fully automate your PL business, but it is a LONG HUSTLE. You will need years of experience in this field before going down that lane. So don't dive into this business without giving it a proper thought. Ask questions, carefully understand/analyse the answers, seek constant guidance from seniors or mentors. Only then commit yourself to this business.

Yes it becomes PASSIVE after ages once you are the best seller and have highest ratings in the niche along with years of sales history!
