My name is Daniele Bizzarro and I've spent more than 20 years riding, training and coaching horses and riders across dressage, show jumping and cross-country. I grew up just outside

Turin (Italy), started riding when I was nine, and very quickly discovered that I loved the process of training horses just as much as I loved competing them. Over the years I've had the privilege of producing a large number of horses working with some of the best riders and coaches in the world, including William Fox-Pitt, Caroline Moore and Ian Woodhead. I've represented Italy in Nations Cup competitions, I was in the short-list for the 2024 Paris Olympics and I competed at the 2025 European Championships, and I've ridden every type of horse along the way: sharp ones, strong ones, lazy ones, spooky ones, young ones, talented ones, complicated ones. The variety taught me more than any book ever could. I believe every horse can go better, and every rider can feel more confident when the communication between them is clear. The Dan Bizzarro Method is based on a few simple principles that stay the same whether you're doing dressage, show jumping or cross-country:

โ€ข Clear reactions to the aids โ€” the horse knows what you're asking
โ€ข Balance and self-carriage โ€” a horse that can carry itself feels lighter, softer and easier
โ€ข Straightness and accuracy โ€” the foundation of every good transition and every good jump
โ€ข A soft, consistent contact โ€” not forced, not restrictive, but genuinely connected
Small corrections at the right time โ€” before bad habits grow
Confidence for horse and rider โ€” without tension, pressure or confusion

My teaching style is direct, calm and practical. I don't overcomplicate things. I show you what matters, and I explain why it matters, so you can train your horse even on the days when I'm not there. Riders often tell me they feel "relieved" after a lesson โ€” not because it was easy, but because everything finally made sense. Why I Created the Dan Bizzarro Method
After years of coaching, I kept seeing the same patterns:

โ€ข Riders were working hard but feeling stuck.
Horses were trying their best but becoming tense, unbalanced or confused.
Most people weren't struggling because they lacked talent โ€” they simply didn't have a system that made the work clear and consistent. So I created the Dan Bizzarro Method to give riders a structure they can follow at home, at clinics, in competition warm-ups and even out hacking. It's designed to be simple, effective and genuinely useful for the horses people ride every day โ€” not just elite athletes. My aim is always the same: to make horse riding easier to understand, more enjoyable, and more rewarding for both horse and rider.

Often, thatโ€™s not the real problem. ๐Ÿ‘‡

If your horse feels heavy in your hands, rushing in transitions, or falling onto the forehand when you add more energy, youโ€™re probably dealing with a balance issue.

๐Ÿด He leans on the contact.

๐Ÿด He gets quicker instead of carrying himself better.

๐Ÿด More energy creates more speed, not more quality.

A big, powerful horse often triggers an instinctive reaction in the rider.

For some, itโ€™s pulling.
For others, itโ€™s holding.
For many, itโ€™s simply getting tense.

The problem?

A strong horse gets stronger.
A fresh horse gets fresher.

Instead of worrying about how powerful the horse feels, focus on what you can control:
๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป.

๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด.

Donโ€™t rush.
Stay soft.

Keep the conversation going with regular half halts, and if your horse ignores the answer, simply go back and clarify. โœจ

My sister asked me to teach a quick lesson to my niece who competes in Pony Games and barrel racing. Then the yard owner asked if Iโ€™d take a couple more riders. You can guess where this is going.

I ended up teaching thirty people for the entire day.

Now Iโ€™m no barrel racing specialist, but what struck me was how little that mattered. Every principle I work with daily applied perfectly.

Not in two strides. Not when your horse decides he's ready.

Every delayed transition in a dressage test is a mark ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜† ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜ before the movement has even begun. The judge is sitting at C watching the marker. They can see exactly when you asked and exactly when it happened.

That gap - even half a second, is the difference between a ๐Ÿฑ and a ๐Ÿณ. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

And here's the thing most riders don't realise. From the saddle, a slightly late transition just You asked, it happened, you moved on. It's only when you look at the sheet and see the marks that you start to wonder where they went.

The fix isn't complicated. Your horse needs to be responsive to your aids so that the transition happens ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ you ask. Not the next one.

The balance was wrong. The weight was falling onto the forehand. The neck got tight. And once the neck is tight, the back tightens too. And once the back tightens, the only thing your horse can do is lean on your hands to stay upright.

So you hold on. Of course you do.
