🦔 🔥 BONFIRE NIGHT 🔥 🦔
This adult hedgehog is incredibly lucky to be alive! Unlit bonfires are an appealing home for wildlife like hedgehogs and this adult male is no exception. He was sleeping in an unlit bonfire but was thankfully spotted and rescued shortly after the bonfire had been lit. He’s sustained burns to his spines and whiskers, but otherwise no lasting damage has been found and we’re hopeful he will make a full recovery from his traumatic ordeal!

Please be particularly mindful of wildlife this time of year! Ways in which you can help are to:
• Re-build and check bonfires just before lighting them
• Use alternative low-noise fireworks
• Go to a public display instead of doing it at home
• Clear up all litter afterwards

🦉 This adult Tawny Owl was transferred to HART from a local veterinary practice after being found grounded at the side of the road. We suspect this poor Tawny Owl was hit by a car, an increasingly common reason for admission, given Owl’s injuries and where it was found. This photo was taken on admission to HART when he was still very poorly, but we’re pleased to say that he’s slowly improving with treatment. We will keep you updated!

🐦 This young feral pigeon is being cared for by our team after suffering with a nasty infection as a chick. As you can see, she has finally learnt how to feed herself so is no longer being tube fed. This is a big milestone for any wild animal being hand-reared because it is the first step towards independence!

🐭 We’ve admitted two more baby Hazel Dormice. These two youngsters were caught by a cat and very sadly their sibling did not survive the ordeal. The remaining two siblings have been doing really well in our care so far!

🦊 The beautiful female fox that we’ve been caring for has returned home! We’re so pleased that she made a full recovery after receiving treatment for a nasty abscess. Getting the wildlife we care for back where they belong is one of the best parts of our job!

🐥 These two young Wood Pigeons were brought into HART after their nest was unfortunately disturbed and they were unable to be returned. Please remember that it is illegal to disturb an active birds nest under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981!

Pigeons and doves belong to the Columbidae family and breed all year round so they are a very common patient here at HART! These two youngsters will be hand-reared by our team until they are independent.
