🌾 As much as we are enjoying beautiful late Summer days, sadly so do the bugs. Harvest mite (aka Berry bugs) season is upon us. Harvest mites are tiny bright orange bugs that form orange crusts on your dog’s skin,especially on their paws, legs and ears. Your dog’s skin might be very itchy and look irritated. There is no licensed treatment but we find that Frontline spray is very efficient. You don’t have to buy a whole bottle, we can apply it for you in your appointment. In the first instant at home it’s useful to wash the affected areas with warm water and an antiseptic wash.

💚 Meet the team Duns - Your Vet team 💚

Meet Mimi, Rebecca, Caitlin and Rachael 👋

Mimi joined Cheviot Vet in October 2025. Mimi enjoys all aspects of her job but particularly loves getting to know her clients. In her spare time you will find Mimi paddle boarding, gardening, baking and hanging out with her sausage dogs. 🏄‍♀️🪏🥐

Rebecca qualified in 2020 joining Cheviot Vets earlier this year. Rebecca loves the variation of first opinion practice, but has a keen interest in skin cases. When Rebecca is not at work you will find her running around the Scottish Borders and spending quality time with her family and dogs. 🏃‍♀️🏡🐾

Caitlin joined us as a new graduate in Summer 2025. Caitlin enjoys diagnostic imaging cases and loves working with multiple teams - you will also find Caitlin at our Kelso branch. In her spare time, Caitlin enjoys long walks and wild swimming. 🏊🏻‍♀️🥾🩺

Rachael returned to Cheviot Vets earlier this year bringing a wealth of experience with her. Rachael's 'fav' thing about work is Melissa (disclaimer - Melissa is writing this post 😉). When Rachael is not at work you will find her trying to keep up with her early 20s / late teen children, riding her horse up the Cheviots and enjoying rugby. 🏉🐎⛰️

Meet Gemma and Melissa 👋

Gemma is our Lead Nurse Kelso / Duns, joining Cheviot Vets in October 2016. Gemma ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care and loves seeing others progress and push themselves. In her spare time you will find Gemma enjoying many ride outs or hiking with her dogs Mylo and Tilly. 🩺🐎🐾

Melissa joined Cheviot Vets in September 2016, managing both our Duns and Powburn teams. Melissa is very much behind the scenes overseeing the day-to-day running of both branches. When Melissa is not at work you will find her in the Northumberland countryside with her family and horses. 🌿🐴🥾

Meet Milly, Lauren and Amber 👋

Milly joined us in January 2026 as a Veterinary Care Assistant. She is incredible, looking after your pets when they stay with us and providing love, comfort and cuddles. She also provides vital support to the RVNs. In her spare time, Milly enjoys spending quality time on walks with her dog Buddy and family and looking after her pony Oscar. 🥰🐾🐴

Lauren joined us in October 2025 as an experienced Veterinary Nurse. She covers all aspects of patient care but particularly enjoys meeting her patients and their humans face to face in nurse clinics. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys growing fruit and veg in her allotment and spending time caring for her dog Pip and horses Maisie and Mouse. 🐶💪🧅

Amber joined us in October 2025 as a newly qualified Veterinary Nurse and has already developed a wealth of experience in the 9 months she’s been with us. You might also see her in our Kelso branch! In her spare time Amber enjoys training her dogs Fara and Runa, and going on adventurous mountain hikes, dogs included! 🩺🥾🦮
