Give a thought to our prickly friends. We are the Vets for Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue and have seen an influx of strimmer injuries. 🦔🦔🦔

Please take the time to check before you strim, mow or use hedge cutters. 🙏

With the beautiful warm weather we have had the last few weeks, adders are now well and truly out of hibernation. ☀️🐍

Please be aware of your surroundings when out exploring this beautiful part of the world as adders tend to prefer areas of undergrowth, rocks and long grass. If venturing into the hills and moors keep to paths and keep your dog on a lead. 🦮

The usual spots on our dogs for adders bites are legs, head or neck and the swelling can appear within 2 hours post bite. You may be able to see 2 puncture wounds in the centre of the swelling. If you’re not sure if your dog has been bitten but you notice anything which may be suggestive of a bite later on, such as swelling and puncture wounds, it is important that you ring us without delay, even if it is outside of our normal opening hours. ‼️

There are precautions you can take such as having Chlorphenamine tablets or a wound-flush in your bag when you go for a walk (please have a look at our pick’n’mix first aid bag offer). This can be used immediately after a bite, will help reduce some of the symptoms and buy you time to get to us for further treatment. 💊

Here at Cheviot Vets we are always open and available to talk. ⭐️ Strangles Vaccination Amnesty ⭐️

⭐️ FREE STRANGLES VACCINATION OFFER ⭐️

Strangvac is an intramuscular vaccine against the highly contagious and devastating respiratory disease S.equi (Strangles). The vaccine is indicated to reduce the severity of clinical signs of the disease and reduce shedding. 🦠

A primary vaccination course consists of two doses administered 4 weeks apart, followed by regular boosters at either 6 or 12 month intervals, depending on your horse, yard and risk factors. 💉

We are very pleased to be able to offer a strangles vaccine amnesty to our equine clients from the middle of March, in conjunction with Dechra. To claim, the first vaccine needs to be administered between Monday the 17th of March and Friday the 11th of April, then your second vaccine 4 weeks later will be free of charge. 🐴

We must book the second vaccine on the first visit. Normal visit charges apply, however we are able to offer a visit free of charge if there are 5 or more horses at one yard to do on the same day. 📔
