Things I say as a dog trainer that sound absolutely ridiculous out of context… 😂
🐾 “Have you tried throwing the snacks on the floor?”
🐾 “Let's give him a bit more distance from the bin.”
🐾 “Brilliant! He looked at the pigeon and then looked back at you!”
🐾 “We're going to practise doing absolutely nothing.”
🐾 “No, don't worry about the sit. Let's just let her sniff.”
🐾 “That's great! She only barked three times instead of twenty!”
🐾 “Yay! He recalled away from the mud. Great life choice!”
These little moments matter. A dog choosing to disengage, recovering more quickly after something exciting, feeling safe enough to explore or simply finding something a bit easier than last time can be a huge win.
Progress doesn't always look impressive to someone watching from the outside. Sometimes it's a tiny change that makes everyday life so much easier for both the dog and their human.
Dog training isn't always about impressive tricks and perfectly obedient dogs. Quite often, it's about the little things that help dogs feel more comfortable in the world 😀
