⚠️ Contagious cough (also known as Kennel cough) is widespread, distressing and highly contagious ⚠️

Cases are seen frequently in unvaccinated dogs, caught from anywhere other dogs explore; the park, daycare, training classes, shared water bowls outside shops...

Yearly vaccination throughout life is the best way to protect your dog and reduce the spread. Check with your vet today if your dog’s vaccinations are up to date.

Don’t delay! Book your dog in for their vaccination by visiting our website.

today 😍🐴

We hope everyone is having a great weekend. Beth is our vet on call and she has had the joy of meeting this little fella - a lovely Clydesdale c**t born yesterday morning out in the sunshine. 🌞 His mum just needed a little help to pass the placenta.

Happy Easter from all of us at Ardene House Vets! We hope your day is egg-stra special — for you and your furry friends!

Before you share those treats, some friendly reminders:

🔹Chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats — especially dark chocolate. Keep all Easter eggs, bunnies, and treats well out of reach. If you are enjoying an Easter egg hunt, make sure no chocolate eggs get left behind 👀

🔸Watch out for synthetic grass & plastic decorations – the colorful fillers in Easter baskets can look like toys to curious cats and dogs. If swallowed, they can cause serious digestive issues or even blockages

🔹 Hot cross buns may be a tasty Easter treat for us, but they often contain dried fruits like sultanas, currants, and raisins — all of which are toxic to dogs

If you are concerned your pet might have eaten something they shouldn’t have, please contact your vet immediately.

Did you know even a small amount of raisins (or grapes) can be dangerous for dogs?

They can cause kidney failure, so it’s important to act fast if your dog eats any.

🚨 What to do if your dog eats raisins or grapes:

✔️Call your vet immediately. Don’t wait for symptoms
✔️If you can, tell them how much they’ve eaten

Signs of raisin poisoning include vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Even if your dog seems fine, seek
veterinary advice.

Meet Vinny! 😍

This handsome boy has been visiting our RVN Frances for confidence and socialisation visits for just over a year now—and what a journey it’s been!

When Vinny first started coming to the practice, he was very nervous. His early visits involved lots of hiding behind his owner, under the chair, you name it. And that was totally okay. Frances gave him all the space he needed, with no pressure and absolutely no scary needles.

Over time, with regular visits and a gentle approach, things began to change. Using techniques like treat and retreat, where Vinny could grab a treat and retreat to his safe space, we slowly built up his trust.

Eventually, Vinny began taking treats from Frances directly, and with his owner’s support, he even started allowing some gentle chin scratches. Month by month, his confidence blossomed and he began offering his paw, enjoying more attention, and showing us just how brave he really is.

When it came time for his yearly check-up, Vinny was able to see our vet Emma with Frances by his side (and a few treats, of course). He was calm, cooperative, and handled it like a pro!

And the best part? His confidence wasn’t shaken one bit. At his next socialisation visit, he was just as happy to see Frances, tucked into his favourite chicken treats, and even showed off with a little lie-down and roll-over trick!

Frances couldn’t be prouder of Vinny and all the progress he’s made 🥰

If you think your pet could benefit from socialisation visits like Vinny, give us a call - we’d love to help them build their confidence too. 🐾

Beth & Lisa inspiring the next generation 🤩exploring the world of equine careers — from dedicated vets to skilled nurses, each role plays a vital part in equine care 🐴

Last week, Beth and Lisa had a fantastic time representing Ardene House at the equine careers event hosted at the Sunnybrae Equine Unit at SRUC.

It was a brilliant opportunity to chat with young people passionate about horses and share insights into what it’s really like to work in equine veterinary practice. Our bandaged-up demo pony was a hit, and we loved answering questions about everything from injection technique to lab work!

A big thank you to the organisers and everyone who stopped by our stand – we were so impressed by the enthusiasm and curiosity of the future generation of equine professionals.

Thinking of a career with horses? Events like this are a great way to get inspired!
