Aprop animal shelter in Pego is an animal sanctuary run entirely by volunteers. We take in and look after abandoned dogs and cats from Pego and the surrounding areas. We are working hard to improve the shelter and make it a better place for these animals whilst we try to find them there forever homes. The shelter operates with little help from the authorities and relies mainly on donations. Help i

s always needed in the form of donations,volunteers,foster carers ,dog walkers and help with the improvements.

This sweet, shy young boy is Simon. He is slowly learning to trust us humans, who clearly have not treated him well in his past life. He needs time, patience and gentle reassurance to let down his defences and learn how to be the carefree, happy dog he should be. Simon is medium-sized, weighing no more than around 20 kg. He is still a youngster — his life cannot be defined by the people who failed him at the beginning.

Why is little Chiqui still waiting? ❤️

She is a very shy girl, but that is quite normal for many pods. She needs a quiet, patient home with a completely secure garden or terrace—an apartment with a safe, enclosed interior terrace could be ideal. Another calm and confident dog would be wonderful to show her the ropes, as long as they would not overwhelm her.

Come on—come and meet this tiny, beautiful girl and help her discover just how wonderful life could be. 🐾

Sometimes a home is so perfect that we cannot even imagine just how much it will transform a dog’s life. ❤️

Lara, who is deaf, spent much of her time at the shelter hiding beneath her bed and had even begun to develop obsessive behaviours. Now she is living her absolute best life in the Netherlands with her wonderful new family—and the transformation is incredible.

We love how her new brother is learning he needs to get up in her face for a reaction, the hopeful bark is not enough 😍

To everyone who was determined to rescue Lara from her previous life, bravo! 👏 And to all those who helped make this adoption possible, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Her new life is simply perfect. 🐾❤️

Meet Niamh ❤️

We would like to introduce you to Niamh, known to us in her previous life as Nirvana. She is a beautiful 7-year-old Caucasian Shepherd, sterilised and, apart from a current ear infection, in good health.

Niamh was adopted from APROP as a young girl and has spent many happy years enjoying enormous freedom, exploring the countryside around her home out in the wilds. Sadly, her owner became homeless and asked us to temporarily care for Niamh and her friend Lupita while he tried to get back on his feet. Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out as hoped, and we now need to find permanent homes for both girls.

Lupita already has a family interested in her, but Niamh is still waiting. She is currently safe in a foster home, but what she really needs is somewhere she can finally settle again.

Niamh is a friendly, gentle and sensitive soul. She is used to daily grooming, which is important for her magnificent Caucasian Shepherd coat, and she doesn’t need an action-packed life. Her ideal home would be a secure campo home with plenty of space, where she can amble around at her own pace, enjoy the outdoors she has always known and, most importantly, have a human companion by her side. She is friendly to all other dogs, ignores cats so definitely workable, in fact an all round sweetheart ❤️

We would particularly love to hear from someone who knows and understands this very special breed. At seven years old, Niamh deserves stability, companionship and a home where she can spend the rest of her years feeling safe and loved.

‼️Please share for Daisy‼️ Daisy Daisy Daisy what are we going to do with you my love? Daisy was a favourite at the shelter everyone wanted to walk her first, sharing her kennel with 2 other dogs she craved love, affection and home comforts. We even put a lovely leather chair in her kennel. Daisy would snooze in the chair dreaming she was in a loving home until Aston decided to chew her chair to pieces and it ended up in the skip. Daisy is only small under 11kg and was abandoned with 4 puppies who are all adopted and in homes now. Daisy is in foster in Orba with Jim & Wilma who adore her but struggle walking her as she does not mix well with unfamiliar dogs. She has one local male dog in Orba she loves but not the others. At the shelter Daisy had to get on with it and make friends with the other dogs even to the extent we walked her as a pair. She is wonderful in the home, fully housetrained and very fond of cuddles. She is chief of security and you will never be burgled with Daisy looking after you, she is quiet not a barker unless there is someone at the door. She cannot be let off lead as she will meet unfamiliar dogs in an unfriendly manner. She used to love her mountain walks at the shelter but equally happy with walks in an urban environment. Daisy is 4-5 years old and there must be someone out there who can offer her the loving forever home she needs. Daisy is not perfect but no dog or person is. Normally a tiny young dog like Dot would fly out the shelter, we would be inundated with messages but it wasn't the case with Dot. Sadly she had 3 foster homes before forever was found. It was most likely the fact she had Leishmania that put adopters off. When a dog has Leish as volunteers we feel that is more of a reason to adopt, the dog needs us more than a healthy dog. Volunteer Linda and her partner Dieter have hit the jackpot adopting tiny Dot now called Naya and they have welcomed her with open arms & paws into their family with fur brother & sisters Erna, Frieda und Filou. We could not be happier for Naya and wish her a long and happy life with her wonderful family🥰🎉
