Howdy folks...

No emoji at the start of this post as what I'm about to write is serious. It's painful. It's sickening to the core. Think twice about reading further.

There are different dog sports around the world. Mondioring, IGP, schutzhund, AVD etc.
Some sports require pressure to be put on a dog to see if they can stay focused on the task in an adverse environment.

Yesterday I heard about a group out of UK doing trials responsible for one dog dying and another loosing an eye during qualifications for an AVD levels. I'm not gonna get into DETAILS as they are pretty graphic. There's no videos of this as the club forbids any recording or even spectators during qualifications. But they have videos on their Instagram of how they "train". Keeping dogs submerged, setting off flares and spraying dogs with sparks etc.

It's not training. IT'S ABUSE!
Plain and simple.

And I won't stand for something like that. Ever.
And neither should you. React when you see dogs being kicked, punched, hit with sticks or chocked. Don't stand there waiting for someone else to react. If you don't have it in you to confront an abuser record it on your mobile. Shout for help like a life depended on it. Because it might. Maybe not yours, maybe not a person's life. But life of an animal that has been bred to be almost entirely dependant on people. A dog's life.

We must all fear evil people. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear more. And that is the indifference of good folks.

Live. Love. Train..... don't let people abuse animals.

Don't we all wish our dogs would look at us the way Gimli looks at Mirto? 😊

We're still looking for good will donors to help rehabilitate Gimli. A dog thought so dangerous that he was supposed to be put down by the shelter that was his home since he was only about a year old.

Howdy folks 🤠

Posting about Gimli's progress continues.

I will start with a bit of a preamble. I get asked often how is Gimli's case different from other dogs rescued from the shelter. Well to put it blantly Gimli is the dog who lived. He was supposed to be euthanized because some people only wanted to see his history of bites. They didn't consider that at least half of them were the effect of human error, lack of common sense or negligence. The rest is the environment in which dogs need to live in the shelter. And I know Gimli's not the only dog in this situation. But he won't be the last that we help rehabilitate and find a forever home for. Mark my words.

Had a fab training session yesterday. As I mostly do my training with dogs in a state of arousal on the brink of being overstimulated (just my personal preference) talking to Dani and getting a few pointers on how to quickly calm a dog down in between sets was very informative and something I will absolutely be using from now on. 😊

Gimli has made a ton of friends at Dani's and is very happy there. His heel walk is getting better. His sits and downs are spot on when close. Mirto started training those basics at a distance with him. His stay needs a bit of work. And his recall isn't 100% foolproof. But he hasn't started training with Dani just yet. All of this will change in a week's time and he will be progressing even faster. 😊

We are still looking for donations to cover the cost of Gimli's rehabilitation process. We managed to raise €1100 out of the €2500* that we need. Nearly half way there. 🐺😆

If you can help us please do.
Here are Revolut and bank details.

Howdy folks 🤠

These past couple of days I couldn't go and see Gimli which pains me greatly.
But don't fret. Still have updates for you.

This video shows you exactly why Gimli is a great dog. If you look closely you'll see two situations in this video which are very telling behaviour wise.

Firstly you'll see three dogs drinking out of one bucket without any resource guarding, any stress, nothing. Their tails are wagging slowly, casually, their bodies are loose, ears neutral. If you look at the whole caster all these dogs look comfortable with each other and with sharing the most valuable of resources - water.

Secondly you'll see the absolute masterclass in game theory, engagement and rough play diffusion. Gimli loves playing with the young German shepherd. But the shepherd plays rough. Not wanting to loose a play buddy but also not wanting to escalate what Gimli does is so powerful. He fakes a submissive stance (laying on his back) and when the shepherd comes for him he springs up running away like and making other doge chase him. This shows amazing social intelligence on Gimli's part.

I love this boy.

Another update on how an Gimli is doing.

I've been slowly working on Gimli's focus, heel walk, overall basic obedience and tricks. Dani on the other hand have been working on socialising Gimli with other dogs from his compound.

Turns out Gimli is a bit boisterous but playful. Dani tested him with females first and he got along with them extremely well. Yesterday when we came over Gimli was out surrounded by 7 other dogs. Both male and female. And he was amazing with them. He was even able to quickly brush off the young huskies dominating head wrap without escalating.

I know we still have a long way ahead of us to when we are 100% sure it's safe to adopt Gimli. So we're not trying not get too excited but it is difficult 😂

We also spoken with Dani about how we were to move forward and how much is he going to charge us.

We are looking at 10-12 week rehabilitation process.

Overall the accommodation, food, vet bills and rehabilitation for this period will cost us €2500.
It looks like a lot but we already managed to gather €550 to cover the costs. And at the end of the day we want to be absolutely certain that when Gimli goes to his forever home he's gonna be nothing but the best companion one can imagine.

If you can support us please do so using payment methods below. No donation is too small. And all of the money will go towards Gimli's rehabilitation and wellbeing. I will always be transparent and will be showing receipts!

Howdy folks 🤠

Here's an update on Gimli. 😅
He's doing great at Daniel's place. We're trying to have someone visit him every day midday and afternoon when Daniel isn't busy with other clients. We're trying to take it slow although it's not easy to curb our enthusiasm. But we need to be extra careful and set ourselves and especially Gimly for success not failure. Daniel has been slowly guiding us and giving us tips on how to work with Gimli.

Yesterday Gimli made his first friend in Daniel's place. Maybe ever. We're not sure. You can see both dogs a bit anxious and uneasy but the tension is quickly broken with engagement and an invitation to play. So happy for Gimli it's beyond words.

Another peace of good news is that Gimli will have a place at Daniel's compound for as long as he needs to stay there and as long as we can pay for it.

I've never done this before but I will be asking for your support now regarding Gimli. Please help us make this dog's life better. As little as €5 or €10 monthly can swing things around for Gimly.

We need €450 monthly to pay for Gimli's place at Daniel's. Right now, only 48h into Gimli's journey we already have people contributing half of that sum which is amazing and I can't thank these people enough. And full disclosure I'm one of the contributors myself. But we need to think about Gimli's future and start putting money away for vet bills and other costs we might incuure.

If you can donate anything please do. No donation is too small. It doesn't matter if it's just one time donation or if you can make it a monthly one. Any money we'll receive will be spent on Gimli and I will be showing receipts. Please help Gimli if you can.

Meet Gimli. An almost 4 years old mastin and malinois cross. This dog's story up till yesterday was that of downfalls and strife. He came to the shelter when he was just 1 year old and the environment was slowly killing his spirit. He became territorial over his kennel. Three years in a tiny, dark enclosure took its toll on Gimli. He became reactive and started biting. Badly.

At the shelter he was deemed unadoptable and some of the volunteers were afraid to get close to him. I started working with Gimli not that long ago. But I knew this dog didn't have a bad bone in his body. It was the environment that he was in that made him defensive and made him lash out.

Along a group of beautiful people like Jackie Hughes Mirto Grigoropoulou and so many others (you know who you are and I will be tagging all of you in future posts once I make a list 😂) we saved this dog. Jackie adopted him and even though she wasn't able to take him home we found a place for this boy with Daniel at canina Y adiestramiento kennel campo de gibraltar.

Gimli is still in a kennel for now. But he's not surrounded by 250 distressed dogs. His kennel is big and not blinded, he can see what's going on around.

Our goal is to work with Gimli, rehabilitate him physically and mentally, and find him a forever home. Unfortunately we can't manage the financial side of things on our own and we will be setting up a WhatsApp group and a special account for anyone who'd like to donate even a few quid to help us help this amazing boy find his forever home.

For now look at these videos of Gimli.
A dog deemed unadootable by the shelter.
He is the best example that the dog's behaviour in a shelter is almost never the its true nature and temperament.
