FIRST CONTACT
Little Lucero has been jealously guarded by his Mum Victoria but he has been watching little Luz de Luna having cuddles and scratches from our volunteers and today his curiosity got the better of him while mum's back was turned. We feel it won't be long before he is demanding attention, not that his little girlfriend will want to share too much!

WILD AT HEART
Beautiful Graciella has been at ARCH since November of last year. We were asked to take a group of wild horses from the Donana because they were a danger to themselves and to the people living in the nearby town where they had caused a fatal road accident. She was pregnant when she arrived but lost the foal shortly afterwards. Since then we have been giving her space to get used to humans but are still unable to touch her. She knows all about the regular food deliveries and waits expectantly at the gate but we can approach only so far and no further. She is such a beautiful mare but could be the product of several generations hard wired to avoid human contact. It is going to take someone with infinite patience and endless time to win her trust. But what a heart-warming success story that would be!

FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE
ARCH representatives recently attended a convention at the University of Granada to discuss the new animal laws, organised by Servicios Juridicos Nazaries. There were attendees from other rescue organisations and our Animal Rights lawyer Aritz Toribio. At the end of the discussion certificates were presented to recognise the work of several participants, including ARCH president Jill Newman-Rogers who has "devoted her entire life to helping horses".

SUMMER DREAMING
Our two aged rescues from La Linea, Primero and the mule Borrego are happy to share a paddock and hang out together in the sunshine. They are both noble old gentlemen and deserve the attention they now have.

WELCOME BACK
Our adorable, ultra-long-eared, Giant Andalusian Donkey Marco has returned to the Rescue Centre together with his equally adorable smaller friend Pancho. Marco found a wonderful home here in Andalusia but owing to his owners ill health has had to return to us. He is now looking for a new home where he will be loved as much. These are affectionate, easy-going boys and need to stay together. If you are interested in adopting them please go to our website www.horserescuespain.org/adopt

The remaining unclaimed prizes from Sunday's raffle are now at the ARCH Charity Shop for collection.
And we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who donated prizes to help us raise funds for our rescue work. We are very grateful for your generosity.

A HAPPY ENDING
Among a group of equines rescued from appalling conditions in Malaga back in 2020 was a grey mare and her filly foal. The emaciated horses had been roaming around the streets desperately searching for food and had finally been barricaded inside a rubbish dump, where there was also a dead pregnant mare.
The mare and foal were understandably traumatised and extremely wary of humans but after several months at ARCH both were found special homes with one-to-one attention and they thrived. The mare, who was named Armira, went to live locally. The filly foal, who was named Ida, went up to the north of Spain where she became Zendaya.
Earlier this year we were asked to find Ida/Zendaya a new home. Her owner’s circumstances had changed and she was unable to keep her. (ARCH always asks that adopters get in contact as a first step if their former rescues need to be rehomed.)
Amira’s owner came to see Ida and immediately fell in love with her. So both mother and daughter will now be sharing the same love and attention.

SPRING FEST (4)
A few more highlights. Many thanks to everyone who made the day such a success and helped raise funds to keep our rescues fed and the Centre running. To those who gave us music, to all our sponsors and those who donated raffle prizes, our stallholders and everyone who came and supported us. AND, not least, to all the ARCH volunteers who worked so hard beforehand, on the day and after the event. It's great teamwork!
