I think this was the dream all along...

I knew from a very young age that horse's were my passion and this would be my career but the vision has definitely evolved over the years.

I knew my barn name & colours by the time I was 16 and had the lofty dream (as it should be at that age) for a huge fancy barn, staff, training horses, my own show horses and have students showing at the Royal. The dream has since evolved in many ways, some of which I used to resent as there just never seemed to be enough funds to make the dream happen.

However, as I stand at my kitchen sink looking at this view while "The Royal" is all over my social media I can't help but think maybe this was the dream all along. I just didn't know it yet.

I strive to provide the best coaching and horse care I can. I encourage my students to be the best they can be but I have come to understand that doesn't mean you have to showcase it on a national stage. Instead I get the great honour of coaching a fellow professional's daughter, still coaching my first student 15 years later, enjoying most weekends at home, teaching truly horse obsessed students daily, owning a 100 acre farm and enjoy a 28 year old retired school pony free grazing on my back lawn.

All this to say, I hope everyone enjoys the magic of "The Royal" but also knows there is so much more to this industry.

Dream big, Dream often but don't be afraid to Dream differently than others 💫

KINDNESS & COMMUNITY

This is just one picture capturing the countless moments I experienced this summer of true sportsmanship and people being genuinely kind. A trainer from a completely different barn with students in the same division congratulating an ADK student on a trip well done!

From smiles at the ingate, to words of praise & encouragement, to ingate mints, to mentioning undone collars, to communal efforts to watch flat classes, to a full zone Dance-Off at Playoffs (and the WIN) the list is long and the trainers of the East Zone are top notch!

These acts of kindness don't go unnoticed and can truly change the vibe of the season. Horse shows are long exhausting days with weather that is too hot or too cold or too wet (it never seems to be just "right"). There are great "highs" but also plenty of "lows" at a horse show but the company you keep truly does help keep the spirits high.

From supporting friends & teammates to celebrating other competitors' success to always loving the horse first and of course enjoying the sport THANK YOU to EVERYONE (trainers, parents, riders, managers, owners, ingate etc) in the EAST ZONE for creating the best community ❤️

Part 2...

Jennifer Brockwell & Outside Chance achieved their BIG goal for 2025 with a debut in the Puddle Hunter 11+ division! This team has had their sights set on this division for two years and made this goal a reality to finish out the year. A terrific way to wrap up the season and feel motivated going into winter.

Madison Parks & Apollo's Odyssey claimed 🏆RESERVE CHAMPION🏆 Adult Equitation Division plus numerous ribbons in their various divisions, ironing out any kinks heading into Playoffs. This team also improved their Derby round to earn a few points in hope of qualifying for the derby at Playoffs 🤞. A new partnership comes with lots of learning curves but this team has found their groove just in time to tackle Playoffs!

Mady Lockwood & ADK's Double Take once again took every opportunity in the ring to earn those show ring miles, making so many improvements from the first show this year. Teammate Delya Gaffney helped pilot "Eleanor" to her 2' Hunter debut with a positive outcome. This season was a summer of personal growth for Mady as she worked tirelessly to create a positive show experience for our green (& quirky) "Eleanor".

Maddie Wilson & McKinley KS, we were so excited that Maddie was able to join us for her Silver debut especially on our schoolmaster "Mickey". Maddie handled the new environment very well, taking advantage of her extra ring time and learning from all her experiences. Maddie was able to walk away with a few well deserved ribbons over fences plus 🥈 2' Open Undersaddle & 🥉 2'3 Open Undersaddle. Maddie had a terrific year at her schooling shows and this opportunity was the perfect timing coming off a major confidence boosting summer.

Isla Hayes & Midwest Princess: A last minute rider was a lovely addition to the team. Isla was a pleasure to coach respectful & studious with a cute pony too! This team earned 🥉 B Equitation Flat plus 🥉, 4th, 6th Puddles 11+ division.

For this show & the whole season THANK YOU to all the ADK supporters (parents, spouses, Fiona, Tyler & Ashley) for supporting the ADK team achieve their goals & dreams ✨

Lauren Elliott & Glittercat HD: This show was about having Lauren help transition "Gwen" to her 2026 rider & owner Allie. A huge shout-out to Lauren for putting any personal goals aside to give this green pony a positive first show season. In addition Lauren gracefully supported and encouraged from the sidelines as Allie took over the reins to finish the season. THANK YOU for being on "Team Gwen" 💜

A great finish to 2025 leaving Allie excited & determined to put in the work for 2026!

Cathrine Greene & A Little De Je Vu continued to earn their miles in the 2' ring plus ribbons in the Puddle 11+ division. This team also rode some great hack classes against tough competition. They has worked hard over the years with a few setbacks to have a season where they could stay at their goal height the whole summer. After a season of learning they are ready for a winter of improvements with sights to come out more competitive for 2026!

Kaeyln Stronach & Magnolia continued to hack their way to great ribbons 🥇 Pleasure Hack, 🥇 Puddles 11+ undersaddle, 🥈 Xrail Undersaddle and 🥉 Show Hack. 08/03/2025

We were so lucky that and teamed up for our Hunter Spectacular Weekend with the idea to do live scoring for the second round in each division.

The ADK team got together to try their hand at judging today, parents too! We discussed the basics of scoring, what to look for and the difference in quality/caliber of horses. Everyone had their own score card to do their own judging and recorded the announced scores. Not everyone's scores matched the judge but I was impressed how many were quite close.

I recently read an article about more transparency needed in judging the hunters. After seeing first hand how much the parents and riders learned from this weekend my vote is YES to more live scoring!
