🦟❤️ HEARTWORM SEASON IS HERE! ❤️🦟

Today’s June 1st, that means Heartworm prevention starts today 🗓️

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition spread by mosquitoes. Just ONE mosquito bite can transmit heartworm larvae to your pet.

🐶 For dogs: • Heartworms can grow up to 30 cm long and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels 🪱
• Infection can cause coughing, exercise intolerance, heart disease, and even death • Prevention is simple, safe, and far less costly than treatment

🐱 And don’t forget about cats! • Cats can get heartworm disease too • Just ONE worm can cause severe lung disease, breathing problems, and sudden illness. • There is no treatment for heartworms in cats, making prevention especially important.

Meet Jordy, one of our evening and overnight Veterinary Assistants. Her love for animals goes all the way back and has been growing ever since. She's one of the first people to jump in and help when an emergency lands, no hesitation. Whether that means getting a history, restraining, grabbing supplies or comforting the pet while we do our best to stabilize. If she isn't busy with a patient, she's helping clean, restock the hospital, make surgical packs and more! When she has down time you can find her comforting an in hospital pet, giving them some much needed love and cuddles while they recover. She is truly an important asset and without her, the nights wouldn't go as smoothly. We are all truly grateful to work with such a dedicated and loving person.

FYI: Ear mites (otodectes cynotis) are commonly found in the ears of cats that live outdoor and sometimes on indoor/outdoor cats. They cause extreme itching which can lead to hair loss around the ear, along with dark brown discharge. They're diagnosed by taking a sample of the discharge and looking at it under a microscope. In some cases they are so active you can see them move like in the last clip. Treatment includes cleaning both ears and medication. These mites can also live on dogs and ferrets, and are passed via physical contact. The kitty that was hosting these critters did so well for his ear cleaning and we wish him a speedy recovery. Meet 🧚‍♀️Pixie🧚‍♀️

Pixie is a 4-year old Yorkshire Terrier mix who visited us for her dental cleaning 🦷 Her before & after photos show just how much plaque and tartar can build up over time, especially in small breed dogs 🐶

Professional dental cleanings help remove buildup from above and below the gumline, helping prevent dental disease, discomfort, infection, and tooth loss.

Pixie did wonderfully during her procedure and went home with a much cleaner, healthier smile 💕

🐾🚨 Mystery Object Alert 🚨🐾

Meet Pyp and his brother Hunter 🧡🤍 Two adorable 3-year-old domestic shorthair brothers who recently came to see us after their owners suspected the boys may have eaten something they shouldn’t have 👀

After taking an X-ray of Pyp, our Veterinarian quickly spotted the mystery item hiding in his stomach! 🩻

Good news 👍 our Veterinary team safely induced vomiting, and Pyp successfully brought the object back up 🙌

Both boys are doing great and back to causing harmless orange-cat chaos 🐈🐈
