As we close the door on 2025 and enter 2026, we would like to look back and reflect.
In 2024 we took in 255 animals.
In 2025 we took in 425. That is 170 more animals. We can't quite say why the numbers increased so much in one year, we do know that we have had a record number of puppies, and we are currently housing 35 puppies, with more puppies on our waitlist.
We always have a waitlist, of both adult dogs and puppies.
With these numbers of course come increased costs, increased staffing, vet bills, feed bills ect.
And our community has truly stepped up, from the Beer Label Fundraiser to the Gold Nugget Raffle.. to the kids that have brought in little jars of money to contribute. Everything helps and everything is appreciated.
Our amazing community raised 28,000 towards individual vet care fundraisers. With an astounding 15,000 of that for Tatonka. Everytime we have asked, you have answered and we know that times are tough for many, so we appreciate every single donation.
So many animals have moved into amazing homes and we have been able to do more extensive vet care, we have been able to do multiple dental surgeries, a hip surgery and lots of diagnostic testing. We have dealt with Parvo a few times and have not lost any animals to it. These things are only possible with the support of the community.
We have developed a strong partnership with Wise Canine and have been able to do more behavioral rehab with dogs, as well as sending dogs out with training vouchers, to hopefully educate and build strong bonds with new adopters.
We have implemented more training for staff, all staff are now certified with 'Fear Free'. Staff are also all certified with feline and canine 1st Aid. They are also working on shelter specific courses in play groups, aggression, enrichment and more.
We are working hard to develop community outreach programs, we have a staff member in grooming school and one working towards becoming a certified dog trainer. Our goals and dreams for them are big! We would love to offer low cost grooming and training to all the communities. We are also working to expand our food donation program to the communities in the Yukon.
We have accomplished alot this year and look towards 2026 with even bigger dreams and goals. We have fantastic staff and a fantastic community that shows up for us in so many ways.
We truly could not operate or care for all these animals without everyone's help. It truly takes a village!
With that, we wish everyone a Happy New Years!

Meet the Celestial litter.. and Frida!!!
Stella, Aster, Cassiopeia and Orion are 9 week old puppies. They will be medium sized, there mom is around 35lbs and can be seen at the shelter as well. They are pretty typical yukon specials. They are happy, energetic pups that would suit any home..
Frida (tan puppy) is their adopted sister and approx 9 weeks as well. We know nothing about her, she will also be a medium sized dog and likely has terrier of some kind. She is very high energy but super sweet.
Adoption fees are 500$

Meet Achie!
Achie is a 10yr old male nuetered cat. Achie came to us with suspected kidney disease, however testing showed that he actually has diabetes. Achie is currently on insulin twice a day, and on a diabetic diet. He is very good for his insulin and is doing well. Continued monitoring and care will be required by whoever adopts him however.
Achie is a lovely cat, he is good with other cats, kids and likely fine with dogs.
His adoption fee is 150$

Meet Max!
Max is a 4yr old male nuetered cat. He is a lovely big boy and a unique pale orange colour. Max is good with other cats and kids and would probably be fine with dogs with proper introductions.
His adoption fee is 350$

2025 has been a fantastic year at Humane Society Yukon.
From school classroom visits to Fridays in the Park, community programs, and staff education, we kept busy caring for animals in need.

424 animals came through our doors in 2025, and 344 found loving homes.

Consider a year-end donation to help our shelter animals - and it may reduce your taxes!

Donate before tomorrow, Dec. 31 at midnight to receive a charitable tax receipt for 2025.

Your generosity helps us continue our programs while providing food, shelter, and care for the animals who need us. Thank you for your support.

Fireworks can be terrifying for pets—and distressing for many people—because of their sudden, unpredictable explosions, loud noises, and bright flashes. Animals hear sounds far more intensely than humans, which can trigger extreme anxiety, panic, and escape attempts. People with PTSD or autism can also be negatively affected by these loud and intense explosions!

To help keep pets safe, pet guardians should create a quiet, secure space indoors, use noise-masking tools like televisions or fans, and stay close to offer calm reassurance. Vet-approved calming aids, such as pheromones or prescribed medications, may also help reduce stress.

Most importantly, ensure pets have up-to-date identification and microchips in case they become frightened and try to flee. With a little preparation and compassion, we can reduce fear and keep our animals safe during fireworks displays. Please share.

Every animal in our care received a Christmas present this year.
Thank you to everyone who donated toys, pet food, funds, supplies, and their time to Humane Society Yukon this holiday season and throughout the year. We are grateful for your support. We could not do what we do without you.

Partial Holiday Closure!
This extended cold snap has been pretty tough on our staff and our building, our animals are well, the dogs are a bit bored but healthy.
We have had multiple staffing shortages daily, due to both vehicles issues and sickness. The furnace has stopped working twice, our breakers don't handle space heaters that well and put gate and doors are giving us issues.
We also have alot of animals to care for, we are exhausted, but need to get caught up.
So we will be closed until Jan 1st. We will reopen on January 2nd.
HOWEVER - we will be available by appointment for adoptions and donations, as well.. we are very full but please reach out if you have a animal that needs to be surrendered.
You can call 867 633 6019 and email

Thank you for your understanding.
