Good evening… my name is Oliver.

I’ve been at the West Van SPCA for 60 days now. I’m a sweet old gentleman who still loves the simple joys, squeaky toys, a good game of tug‑of‑war, and giving my favourite humans gentle kisses. I enjoy slow strolls where I can sniff every interesting smell the world has to offer.

My friend I arrived with has found his forever home, and I’m so happy for him… but now it’s just me waiting, wondering when my person will walk through the door. The days feel a little quieter without him. I try to be brave, but I get lonely.

I’m an affectionate, people‑oriented senior looking for a cozy retirement home where I can finally exhale and feel like I belong. I’m curious about cats and other dogs, and I could happily share a home with either.

If you’re out there… I’m ready. I’ve been waiting for you. Please come find me.

Love,
Oliver💕

We had a busy (and happy!) weekend at the shelter, with many animals finding their forever homes 🫶

Sweet Sophie came into our care after being abandoned with pet sitters. She quickly stole hearts in shelter and is now off living her best island life in the Gulf Islands.

Bear, our lovable senior and total crowd favourite, has found an active family where he can do what he loves most, play fetch (endlessly) and explore the outdoors.

And our adorable cockatiel Cinnamon has landed in a home with a couple of feathered friends to keep him company.

Congratulations to these families, and thank you for choosing adoption💙💙

‼️Stray Cat Alert!‼️This intact male brown tabby cat was found on 7th St E in the City of North Vancouver last night. He was found with a bad laceration behind one of his ears and was in need of medical attention. A good Samaritan brought him to Norgate Animal Hospital where he is currently being hospitalized. If you recognize this cat, please reach out us!

Helloooo! I’m Boulder! 🐾

I’m a big boy with an even bigger zest for life, and I’m looking for my forever family!

My absolute favorite thing in the world is off-leash zoomies. I love running, jumping, and racing around so fast the humans can barely keep up. I also enjoy long walks and would make an excellent adventure buddy. I walk beautifully on leash which the humans around here say is a rare talent.

And did I mention that I LOVE to play? Squeaky toys are the best thing ever, and I’m always up for a game of tug-of-war or fetch!

I’m a people-loving guy who’s always excited to make new friends. When I’m not out exploring, I’m a total cuddle bug. I love giving kisses, snuggling up with my favourite humans!

I’ve been at the BC SPCA for 50 days now, and I’m so ready to find my family. I’ve watched lots of other dogs head home, and I can’t wait for it to be my turn.

Could you be my perfect match? ❤️

Love,
Boulder

To conquer loose-leash walking, we need to take it one step at a time, and the very first one is the equipment you use.

Maren Bruun of Paw In Hand shares these three essentials to enjoying a loose-leash walk with your dog.

1️⃣Well-fitted harness: that is comfortable for the dog to wear.
2️⃣Long leash: Remember that it is important that you can safely and effectively handle it.
3️⃣Treat pouch with lots of treats: because there are plenty of things that compete for your attention!

We talk all about loose-leash walking at https://animalkind.ca/all-about-leash-walking/

Congrats to Bagheera, who found his forever home last week🖤🖤

Bagheera truly stole our hearts and quickly became a favorite among staff and volunteers. Our beloved “courtyard panther” brought so much silliness, charm and love to each day. We are beyond thrilled that he has found a loving home with plenty of space to explore, where he can bask in the sunshine and spend his days chatting away, just as he loves to do.

Wishing you the happiest new chapter, Bagheera!

EDIT: To all the commentary around returning the bunny to this owner; we legally have to do everything we can to locate the owner for an abandoned animal in order to better educate them on the PCA Act and provide resources to them in order to support this animal staying in their home. If they're unable to continue caring for this animal, at this point we would discuss rehoming options through surrender. We are unable to rehome animals who are abandoned or come in as a stray as they do not belong to us until the Bylaw hold period is over.

This bunny is currently awaiting his neuter and will be available for adoption shortly.

⁉️⚠️ DO YOUR RECOGNIZE ME? ⚠️⁉️

This juvenile bunny was found in a box, dumped in Victoria Park in the City of North Vancouver with a note that read "FREE BUNNY" above her.

The bunny was found with a bag of food and water, but was left in the hot sun before good Samaritans found her and rushed her to our Centre.

If you recognize this bunny or know of anyone who may have information about this rabbit, please contact the West Vancouver BCSPCA.

We would love an opportunity to speak with this owner and offer additional resources to support this animal remaining in their home.
