‼️Impulse Control & “Leave It” Training‼️
This is an essential skill for service dog prospects like Crosby but is also beneficial in many pet dog situations. We don’t want our dog to think they can eat or access anything & everything, whether it resembles food or not!
This process starts simply, by training with kibble. Then we advance, increasing the difficulty and generalizing the behaviour across environments, items and tasks. Keep an eye out to watch Crosby advance his skills!
What’s important at every step in this training, is the dog does not get rewarded from the sacrificial kibble or released to eat it! The only reward comes from us, not the item we don’t want them to have.
