Clearwater resident Kurtis Elliot has had his conditional sentence order terminated after failing to comply with the terms of his sentence.

Elliot was found guilty of animal cruelty in May 2025 after the BC SPCA removed 15 dogs and puppies from his property. The animals were discovered to be living in distress amongst built-up f***s, suffering from frostbite due to being kept outdoors in subzero temperatures. They were severely emaciated and without access to food or water. In effort to ward off their hunger, the dogs and puppies were ingesting any items they could find, including plastic, bedding and plywood. Despite extensive veterinary efforts, three of the dogs were in such poor physical and psychological conditions that humane euthanasia was required to relieve their suffering. Canada’s Code of Practice for Equines is being updated and your voice matters.

We spoke with Shelby Dennis, CHBC of Milestone Equestrian, about enrichment and why it's important for horses.

There is no requirement in the draft Code to provide horses with enrichment. As the Code is reviewed for the first time since 2013, this is a key welfare issue we want to see addressed.

Public feedback is open now. Submit your comments before March 12 to help shape stronger standards for equine care in Canada.

Meet Dozer 💙

Dozer is an 8-year-old Staffordshire Terrier with a heart as big as his smile. This sweet, friendly boy truly lives up to his name-he may look sturdy, but he’s a total softie at heart. Dozer loves people and greets the world with a happy, wagging tail and an eagerness to make new friends.

Despite being a mature gent, Dozer still has a playful side. His absolute favorite things include playing fetch, tug-of-war, and proudly carrying around his beloved toy dinosaur (it’s very important to him 🦖). When playtime winds down, Dozer is more than happy to relax and soak up attention.

Dozer is also a big fan of food-treats are the way straight to his heart and make him a joy to bond with. Overall, he’s just a wonderful, well-rounded dog who would love a home where he can enjoy his toys, his meals, and lots of love.

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with a playful spark and a gentle soul, Dozer might just be your perfect match. 💕 Learn more about him at https://ow.ly/VOVz50Ybp7n. | BC SPCA Quesnel

Huge shoutout to the amazing Zara who raised $225 for the animals 💛
Zara worked hard doing her paper route and cat sitting, then chose to donate her earnings to help animals in need. How incredible is that?!
What a total superstar you are. Thank you so much, Zara 🐾

Meet Starsky! This little senior cutie came into our care when his owner was no longer able to look after him. He is in good shape and is very spry for an older guy! Starsky likes exploring his enclosure, eating his daily salad and resting in his favourite plushy hidey house. He is quite social and enjoys attention and little pats on his head. Come meet Starsky today!

Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet me. While we do welcome online applications, in person meets have top priority. Learn more about Starsky at https://ow.ly/PBEF50YauEa. | BC SPCA Vancouver

Did someone say lovebug?

Meet Theoden! This social butterfly LOVES people. He’s the guy at the classiest local distillery that everyone gravitates around. He’s the perfect mix of chill and fun, and loves to run after as many toy mice and balls that you can throw. He melts the hearts of everyone he meets and doesn’t seem bothered by other calm cats. Theoden has chronic bronchitis, so from time to time he sounds like he just smoked a cigarette for the first time, coughs, and regrets it. He’ll need his humans to help him manage this, but it doesn’t get his spirit or mood down. What else can we expect from this sophisticated shelter celebrity? Imagine the cat you would have met at Studio 54 or The Viper Room back in the 80’s – that’s his vibe.

Do you think you may be the right match for this lovely boy? Come meet Theoden today! ❤️ Learn more at https://ow.ly/MCVO50YasPp. | BC SPCA Sea to Sky

💘🐾 Love Is in the Air at the BC SPCA Kelowna Animal Centre… and So Are 9 Purr-fect Adoptions! 🐾💘9 sweet cats received a clean bill of health and are now officially available for adoption!

💡 Did you know?
When we take in a large number of animals from the same household, the risk of illness can increase. To keep everyone safe and healthy, we follow a standard quarantine period and test for common diseases before any cat is made available for adoption 🩺🧪

So if you ever don’t see a cat listed right away, please know this 👇
🚪 Just because they’re not on the adoption floor yet doesn’t mean nothing is happening!
Behind the scenes, our team is busy:
📝 Writing bios so you can get to know each cat’s personality
📂 Completing medical checks and paperwork so everything is ready when an adopter walks through the doors
All of this helps ensure every cat goes home healthy, happy, and set up for success 🏡❤️
✨ Ready to fall in love? Come meet these newly available kitties and see who steals your heart at https://ow.ly/oCxn50YarC0
