UPDATE- Monkey has a foster!

Meet Monkey ☀️

2 years old and permanently smiling, Monkey is pure sunshine in dog form. Her favourite thing? Trotting up to you, gently handing over a paw like a tiny polite queen (see the third picture). No ‘paw’ command needed, she knows how it works. 🤝

She’s been amazing with all her dog siblings at the rescue and hasn’t met a person she doesn’t like yet. When she’s not making friends or playing, you’ll find her living her best life sunbathing on top of on of the crates in the yard (see slide 4) 🐾

We’re pretty sure Monkey once had a home—she’s just too sweet and friendly not to have. She came to us during one of our low-cost spay/neuter clinics from a Good Samaritan who saw her wandering the streets. The intention was to spay her and return her to where she was found. But during recovery, we realized this girl belongs on a couch, not the streets. 🏡

Monkey has been disease tested and is heartworm free. She is spayed, vaccinated and de-wormed. 💉

We feel Monkey could be a great fit into just about any home and is hoping to land one in Vancouver, BC—preferably with lots of love and a sunny spot with her name on it.

Lovely was rescued from the same severe hoarding situation as Guapo, where many cats had been left alone in unsafe conditions for over a week. Despite her difficult start, she has remained incredibly loving and social.

True to her name, Lovely adores people and will happily seek out attention from anyone she meets. She loves lap cuddles, gentle head butts, and spending time with both humans and her fellow cats.

Sweet, affectionate, and full of love to give, Lovely will make a wonderful companion in just about any home.

Noche was found near our rescue during a spay and neuter clinic, injured and bleeding from his mouth. When he was brought in for care, the vet discovered his tongue had been severely cut—but thankfully, it was successfully repaired.

After everything he’s been through, Noche proved he was never meant for life on the streets. He’s incredibly sweet and just wants to be close to people.

Noche is a cuddly lap lover who enjoys playtime, gets along well with other cats, and has a friendly, affectionate personality. Resilient and full of love, he’s ready to find a safe and happy forever home.e

Guapo’s journey began with a rescue from a difficult hoarding situation after his owner was hospitalized. By the time we arrived, the house had been untouched for a week. We discovered many cats living in unsafe and cleary neglected conditions.

Despite his past, Guapo is a gentle, kind-hearted boy who is slowly learning to trust and enjoy the comforts of a loving home. He can be a little shy at first, but once he feels safe, his sweet personality shines through. Guapo is curious and playful, always interested in exploring his surroundings and engaging in a fun toy session.

He especially loves gentle head scratches and nothing makes him happier than curling up for a long, peaceful nap on his favorite cozy blanket.
With a bit of patience and love, Guapo will make a wonderful, loyal companion.

Selva was abandoned just days after giving birth, found with her newborn kittens in a box in the jungle. Thankfully, she and her babies were rescued and brought to safety. Her kittens have all been adopted, but Selva is still waiting for her own happy ending.

She’s a small, gentle girl who loves soft pats and quiet affection. Sweet, curious and resilient, Selva is ready to finally have a loving home to call her own. ❤️

🚨✈️ FLYING JANUARY 12 — HOME NEEDED ASAP ✈️🚨

Meet Cookie & Oreo — an inseparable brother duo who suddenly need a new plan 🖤🤍

These 6-month-old brothers are a perfectly mismatched pair. Oreo, the handsome black-and-white tuxedo, is the brave explorer, playful instigator, and confidence coach. Cookie, the soft white and grey tabby, is sweet, shy, and blossoms with reassurance from his brother.

Their daily routine includes:
🐾 Wrestling matches
🐾 One shared nap spot (always)
🐾 Mutual grooming sessions
🐾 Being unreasonably cute

They are deeply bonded and must be adopted together.
They’ve already overcome so much. Cookie and Oreo were found tied inside a garbage bag in the jungle with their siblings. They did have a home lined up, but through no fault of their own, that fell through at the very last minute — and now they urgently need a new place to land.

✈️ They are flying on JANUARY 12, and we must secure a home before their flight.

Educational Post
This is the result of a successful spay and neuter program after 5 years. An empty cat room- and this happens regularly.

We are NOT “limiting admission” or putting people on a wait list. We are taking in every animal that comes into our shelter as long as it is from a Clark County resident- that is what shelters are supposed to do. We are not altering data by diverting intakes or turning animals away. We are working hard to build programs that work to save animals and serve the community.

How is this possible without controlling intake?

1. Free and extremely low cost spay and neuter services that are readily available to everyone in our city and county. This includes owned animals and community cats or feral cats. Not a wait list, not a couple clinics a year. In the beginning we were booked out months at a time, now we can almost always get someone scheduled within 3 weeks or sooner. Progress. This is funded by grants and fundraising not the general shelter budget. The City of Wi******er, which is not our governing body, is gracious enough to provide funding towards this program (has ranged from $5-$17,000 over 6 years) and is to be used specifically for cats.

2. Safety net resources. A food bank, supplies and other resources that can help an owner that is temporarily struggling. We do not currently have assistance for owner vet bills but we regularly write grants and are trying to get that going too. Funded through donations.

3. A barn cat program. If a shelter doesn’t accept feral cats, those cats keep reproducing, become unhealthy due to inbreeding and lack or resources in the area and have poor quality of life and poor outcomes should they come to the shelter later. We have a list of people wanting barn cats so when a feral comes in, it is fully vetted and transferred to a new location where it is wanted within the week.

4. Rescue partners. In general, rescues love to work with a good shelter. A shelter they know is doing their best for the animals and giving honest evaluations on both health and behavior. We are very fortunate to work with some wonderful rescue partners with great adoption facilities to move a large number of our animals.

Animal shelters by design are reactive to the animal problem. But if we can see the bigger picture and create proactive policies that prevent more animals from needing to come to the shelter in the first place we can make a difference in the long run.

*There will likely be some comments asking why we don’t help other shelters when we have space. We are funded by tax dollars from Clark County so we are only able to accept animals from Clark County. We do offer to help by sharing resources, networking etc. We want all shelters to be successful!

Meet Lulu — your future furry sidekick! 🐱

This 2-year-old, 2.3 kg bundle of love was once dumpster-diving with her siblings but now she’s all cleaned up — vaccinated, dewormed, and spayed — totally ready to steal your heart! 💉

Lulu isn’t your average two-year-old tornado; she’s more like a curious little detective, quietly watching everything with big, bright eyes. 🔍 When she’s not on “explore mode,” she’s a total cuddle ninja, gently pawing at you to ask for more pets — because who doesn’t love a little extra love? 💕

She’s happy being the queen of her castle as an only cat or part of a cool cat crew. 👑 Lulu’s flying in on January 12th and can’t wait to find her forever home. ✈️

Remember Oyitos? 🐕💔

We found Oyitos two years ago on the side of the road—broken, burned, and left to die. His hip was shattered, and he had cigarette burns on his paws. No one was coming back for him, and leaving him there was never an option.

He went through major surgery and a long, painful recovery, all while learning how to trust again. 😞 And somehow, he never gave up.

Today, Oyitos is about 4 years old. His body has healed, but his life has been on hold. He has spent two long years in the shelter, watching dogs and cats come and go while he waits for his chance.

Oyitos is quiet, gentle, and incredibly kind. He warms up quickly and looks to humans for reassurance and approval. He loves soft head pets, calmly watching the world around him, and the volunteers who take a moment to sit with him—his little tail wagging like it’s the highlight of his day.

He is vaccinated, dewormed, and deflead. Oyitos is heartworm positive and currently on the slow-kill treatment, which may need to continue for up to two more years. Because of this, it will be very important for his adopter to understand heartworm disease, the treatment process, and the commitment it requires.

After everything he’s survived, Oyitos deserves more than a kennel. He deserves a home, patience, and someone who won’t give up on him. 🏠💔
