🐾 Summer Heat Safety: “If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.” ☀️
As the temperatures rise, it’s easy to forget that asphalt and concrete can get scorching hot—much hotter than the actual air temperature! On an 85°F (29°C) day, the pavement can reach a painful 130°F (54°C). That’s enough to burn your furry friend’s sensitive paw pads in just a few minutes.
Before you head out for a walk, try the 7-Second Rule: 👉 Place the back of your hand flat on the pavement. 👉 If you can’t comfortably hold it there for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet!
💡 Quick Tips for Cool Paws:
    •    Walk early or late: Stick to the early mornings or late evenings when the ground has cooled down.
    •    Stick to the grass: Walk on shady, grassy areas whenever possible.
    •    Invest in booties: If you must walk on pavement, consider protective dog boots.

The “Monthly Massage” Routine

Is it nothing… or is it something? 🤔

As our pets age, they often develop new “accessories” in the form of lumps and bumps. While many are just harmless fatty deposits (lipomas), some can be more serious if left alone.

At Pet Pal Veterinary Clinic, we recommend a Monthly Massage Check:

Step 1: Once a month, give your pet a slow, full-body massage.

Step 2: Feel for any new raised areas, hard knots, or changes in the skin.

Step 3: Check the “hidden” spots—under the armpits, between the toes, and along the belly.

When should you call us? 📞 If you find a lump that is: ✅ Growing quickly ✅ Red or irritated ✅ Firm or “fixed” in place ✅ Changing shape

It’s always better to have us check it and say “it’s nothing” than to wait and wish we had looked sooner! A simple Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA) at our clinic can usually give us answers in minutes.
