Please be extra careful tonight during fireworks. Do not take your dog to see how they behave. This is a recipe for disaster!! It doesn’t matter how long you’ve had your dog please ensure collars are on snuggly with AirTags are attached.
Having your dog in a bathroom with the fan on while you bathe can help them with the scary noises.

⚠️ FIREWORKS WARNING – KEEP YOUR DOGS SAFE THIS WEEKEND ‼️

With firework celebrations happening this weekend, please remember how frightening this can be for our Pets. What’s fun for us can feel like the end of the world to them. Sudden loud bangs, flashing lights, and the unfamiliar smells in the air can cause panic and terror leading many dogs to bolt in fear.

Please don’t take any chances. Every year, countless dogs go missing because of fireworks. Some break through doors, escape gardens, or slip collars in sheer panic.

Here are some ways to keep your dog safe and calm:

🔺Keep them indoors well before fireworks start – even if they’re usually fine outside.
🔺Walk them early in the day to avoid being caught out during evening displays.
🔺Create a safe, quiet space where they can hide under a bed, in a crate with a blanket, or a familiar corner of the house.
🔺Close curtains and turn on the TV or radio to help mask the noise.
🔺Stay calm yourself your dog will look to you for reassurance. Speak gently and avoid fussing too much.
🔺Make sure collars and ID tags are secure, and microchip details are up to date in case the worst happens.
🔺Use calming aids if needed – plug-ins, sprays, jackets, or vet approved medication can help some dogs cope better.

If you know your dog is especially anxious, speak to your vet ahead of time for advice.

🌸 After a 450 km round trip, these two sweet girls have arrived 💛

Rescued from a puppy mill, they’ve spent their entire lives inside a barn never knowing freedom, love, or even the feeling of grass under their paws. When they arrived yesterday, they were unsure and timid, one more fearful than the other.

But once we got home and let them out into the backyard …..everything changed. 🐾

Their tails began to wag, their eyes softened, and the smallest smiles started to appear. For the first time in their lives, they were free to run, explore, and just be dogs❣️

These beautiful girls will be available for adoption in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to see them blossom even more.

Backstreet Paws has been asked to take in two 6 year old female Cocker Spaniels who have spent their entire lives being used for breeding. They’ve known nothing but a barn, having babies, and surviving without love or comfort.

💔 These girls have never known a warm bed, a gentle touch, or what it feels like to be someone’s beloved pet.

💔 They deserve a chance to finally be dogs to feel the grass under their paws, a loving hand on their head, and a safe place to rest.

🥵 We want to get them out before the heatwave hits but we can’t do it without your help.

🙏 We’re urgently looking for foster homes to welcome them into safety.

🙏 Their vetting costs will run into the thousands, as it has with similar cases in the past, they need everything from spays to dental work and more.
