First things first, this is NOT a formal training class.
It’s a guided community meet up designed to give you an opportunity to practise with your dog in a real world environment, around other dogs and people, while working at YOUR dog’s pace.
And part of tonight isn’t just about training the dogs.
It’s about training us humans to advocate for them, too.
❤️ USE YOUR VOICE. ADVOCATE FOR YOUR DOG.
If your dog needs more space, say so.
“Can you give us a little more room?”
“My dog isn’t ready to say hello.” You are not being rude. You are giving your dog what they need to be successful.
One of the most important skills a reactive dog owner can develop is recognizing “this is getting too difficult” BEFORE the dog has to communicate it for them.
Don’t wait for the barking, lunging or big reaction before creating space. Watch your dog. Notice the early signs. Advocate and move.
And everyone attending: if someone asks you for more space, give it to them. No questions, no judgement. ❤️
SOCIALIZATION DOESN’T MEAN “GO SAY HI”
Especially with reactive dogs, socialization isn’t about meeting every dog and person. It’s about learning how to exist comfortably in the world around them.
👉 See another dog without needing to meet them.
👉 Watch people walk past.
👉 Experience different sights, sounds and environments.
👉 Learn to settle while things happen nearby.
👉 Check back in with their handler.
👉 Discover that another dog appearing does not require an immediate FBI investigation. 😂
Sometimes one of the best social skills we can teach a dog is:
“You don’t have to interact.”
❤️ REACTIVE & NERVOUS DOGS ARE WELCOME.
This is a judgement free zone.
Your dog needs 40 feet? Take 40 feet.
Your dog needs to step away for five minutes? Step away.
Your dog has a reaction? Create space, regroup and try again.
Getting closer isn’t automatically progress.
Sometimes the biggest win of the night is your dog seeing another dog from across the pavilion and thinking:
“Oh. A dog.”
Instead of:
“THIS IS THE BIGGEST EVENT OF MY ENTIRE LIFE.” 😂
🦴 BRING YOUR DOG’S PAYCHEQUE!
Bring whatever actually motivates YOUR dog.
🥩 High-value treats
🎾 Favourite ball
🪢 Tug toy
🦴 Favourite reward
Food isn’t motivating for every dog. Find out what makes your dog think: “Okay… you have my attention.”
🐕 A FEW SAFETY RULES
Please use a leash under 6 feet (shorter is better in this environment.)
All training tools are welcome. We ask that equipment is used responsibly and that handlers maintain safe physical control of their dogs.
Reactive and nervous dogs are welcome. Dogs displaying aggression that cannot safely participate around other dogs are not appropriate for this meet up.
And please respect each other’s space. No dog needs to greet another dog tonight.
💜 Nose To Toes K9 Training is joining us as our guest trainer!
⭐ DON’T FORGET THE REVIEW GIVEAWAY!
If you’ve had a positive experience with The Northern Collar Club, leave us a Facebook review before 8 PM tonight for your chance to win:

Tonight isn’t about having the best behaved dog there. It’s about learning your dog, respecting their threshold, advocating when they need help, building confidence and having some fun while doing it.
Keep your distance. Use your voice. Go at your pace. Join in when your dog is ready.
