Spots & Spurs Ranch

Spots & Spurs Ranch We started our puppy venture with Marshall to be our loyal equine protector. Dalmatians are a medium sized breed (40-60lbs) and very energetic and playful.

Spots & Spurs has rapidly expanded to become a full service equine facility offering boarding and training services, dalmatian breeder and farm services raising various livestock including angus cattle, berkshire pigs, lambs and poultry. Our family absolutely fell in love with the Dalmatian breed, so along came Maze, Marla and Marie to complete our puppy family. Two years later, we decided to shar

e our love of dalmatians with our community and hope to bring back ancient traditions and heritage with dalmatians living alongside equines. Their historic ancestors were bred to protect livestock, mostly horses, during carriage rides in the 1800’s. Although not often seen today, our pups have maintained their deep instinct to serve our horses in our farm life. They are extremely smart, fast learners who can be taught agility, protection, hunting/retrieving, or special needs/support dog skills. Their versatility can serve many different purposes whether as a pet or as a working dog breed. Our pets are raised in a family home with lots of exposure to children and other animals. Our 5 children are actively involved in their day to day care, specialty care, whelping, weaning and training processes for the pups. We take great pride in caring for our herd and all parents and puppies have undergone necessary veterinary care to ensure their health as priority. Our first litter came in November 2023 and we hope to continue creating a community connection with our Dalmatians, their equine friends and new families.

We have an insiders scoop on a beautiful mare coming for sale.

Meet 🌾 SKYE 🌾

16 y/o • 15hh • Grade Dun Mare

Good honest dun mare looking for her next job. Skye has been used as a trail horse and has seen a bit of everything - mountains, bush trails, open fields, arenas, and plenty of outside miles. Point-and-go type that’ll ride wherever you ask her.

Quiet, easygoing mare with a good mind that would suit a handy youth or intermediate rider. With more riding and consistency, I think she could make a nice little barrel or rope prospect.

Easy to saddle, stands quiet, and laid back enough she’ll practically nap while you tack her up.

Used to minis, chickens, cattle, dogs, geldings, and mares - doesn’t bat an eye at commotion around her. Mid-low pecking order.

Good for the farrier, sound, and requires no maintenance.

To be upfront, she can be tougher to catch in a big field, but catches fine in a smaller pen. Takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you she’s a solid little mare. Prefers to ride out with a buddy, but will ride out alone with a bit of encouragement.

Only selling because after having a baby I just don’t have the time or drive to keep riding, and she has more potential than sitting in the pasture.

Has sat for the last 1.5 years due to my lack of time - hopped on her today with no issues or funny business. Same horse whether she’s ridden consistently or sits.

📍 Athabasca, AB but our ranch can easily make arrangements to get her here
