🐺 WE’RE HIRING | K9 Wilderness Adventure Handler 🏔️

Fir + Bark is growing and we’re looking for the right person to join our Wolfpack in Squamish, BC.

This is NOT your average dog walking job.

If your ideal day involves mountain roads, forest trails, backcountry adventures, and working alongside dogs in the outdoors… keep reading.

We’re looking for someone who truly loves dogs, enjoys the outdoors, and wants to grow into the world of dog training and canine behaviour over time. We want someone grounded, calm under pressure, physically capable, and excited to become part of a fun, structured, wilderness-focused team.

What we’re looking for:

• Minimum 1–2 years professional experience working with dogs
• Experience with reactive, anxious, under-socialized, or high-drive dogs
• Experience reading canine body language and managing group dynamics
• Experience conducting client meet-and-greets and assessing dog suitability
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Experience assisting with training structure or behavioural work is a bonus
• Comfortable driving trucks and navigating forest service roads and backcountry terrain
• Able to work independently in outdoor environments
• Reliable, coachable, organized, and physically capable of hiking daily in all weather conditions
• Experience with content creation. Especially outdoor and animal focused

Your days may include:

🐾 Leading structured off-leash wilderness pack hikes
🐾 Managing dog behaviour and group dynamics on trail
🐾 Supporting training structure during hikes and daily routines
🐾 Conducting meet-and-greets and helping onboard new dogs
🐾 Transporting dogs safely around Squamish and into the mountains
🐾 Capturing photo and video content for client updates and social media
🐾 Assisting with scheduling, organization, supply management, and day-to-day business operations

We’re expanding and on the lookout for a passionate K9 Wilderness Adventure Handler to join our crew in the mountains of Squamish, BC!

If you’re someone who thrives in the outdoors, loves dogs like family, and can see beauty in a muddy hike through the rain — you just might be the one we’re looking for. This isn’t your average dog-walking gig — it’s a deep dive into connection, nature, and pack life.

What You’ll Be Doing:
🐾 Leading groups of dogs on trail hikes through BC’s wilderness
🚙 Driving a Tacoma to pick up/drop off dogs around Squamish
🌧️ Spending most of your time off-leash in nature — rain, snow, or shine
📚 Completing Fir + Bark’s internal K9 courses on dog behavior, body language, and pack dynamics
🐺 Observing dogs, keeping the pack safe and calm, and helping build confident canines
🧭 Managing dog gear, trail safety, and basic first aid (we’ll teach you!)

We’re Looking For Someone Who:
✨ Has some experience working with animals, especially dogs (kennels, daycares, training, or personal experience all count!)
💪 Is physically fit and comfortable hiking multiple hours a day
🌲 Feels confident being alone in the forest with a pack — this job requires awareness, intuition, and calm leadership
🚗 Has a full driver’s license and is confident driving the work trucks
📞 Has great communication skills and can chat easily with clients
🫶 Is open, honest, and eager to learn (we’ll provide lots of mentorship + training)

As we continue to grow thanks to the support of this amazing community we are on the hunt for another member to join our team leading K9 wilderness adventures through out the mountains of Squamish. We are looking for a K9 handler who loves dogs, the outdoors(rain, snow or shine!) and hiking. The ideal person for this job would have some sort of previous experience working with animals(especially dogs!). This new handler needs to be keen on learning about dog behaviours, can pay attention to detail and has great customer service skills

The majority of this job is spent in the forest exploring the bush with groups of dogs so with that said you must be comfortable on your own in the woods. There will be wildlife safety education provided during the training process

Description 🐶

Hiking/walking packs of dogs

Must be comfortable driving a tacoma pick up truck with full license

Picking up dogs and transporting them safely to and from adventures

We are open Monday - Friday year round and most weekends in Winter(Jan, Feb and March)

All gear including first aid kits, crates, treats, leashes etc will be supplied by Fir + Bark in the work trucks

You will need to complete K9 courses provided by Fir + Bark

Lots of training will be given!

Must be healthy and fit

trucks equipped for off road and safey for each dog using a seat belt or crate

🌸 Roof top vents on each canopy to ensure temperature control in the summer with window air flow circulation

🌸 Shower heads installed in each truck with fresh towels to ensure your dog comes home as clean as possible on those really dirty days
