A little more than just a walk in the woods at Fir + Bark!

Nature gives dogs the space to explore, think and build confidence. Through exposure to new scents, terrain and experiences we help dogs develop strong trail skills while enjoying the freedom of the outdoors.

Every dog brings something unique to the pack. Different personalities, energy levels, communication styles and social boundaries. As handlers our role is to recognize those differences, read body language and guide group dynamics to encourage healthy social interactions.

We believe in freedom with structure and thoughtful handling that supports good decision-making along the way.

Because a successful wilderness hike isn’t just about exercise. It’s about creating positive experiences, natural enrichment and helping dogs become the best trail companions they can be!

Four-legged coworkers, endless adventures, mountain views and a dress code that definitely includes dog hair. Sound like your kind of office? WE ARE HIRING!

We’re looking for a K9 Wilderness Adventure Handler to join the growing Fir + Bark crew in Squamish, BC.

This isn’t your average dog walking job. Your days are spent out on the trails with a pack of dogs, building relationships, learning their individual quirks and safely navigating the mountains together.

Fir + Bark is run by a dog trainer with a decade of experience in the dog world, so there’s a big focus on understanding the dogs you’re working with, not just getting them out for a hike. You’ll gain hands-on knowledge in dog behaviour, body language, pack dynamics and handling along the way.

A DAY WITH THE PACK

• Leading groups of dogs on wilderness trail hikes
• Driving around Squamish in one of our company Tacomas for pickups + drop-offs
• Spending most of your workday outside year-round
• Managing off-leash groups and getting to know each dog individually
• Helping dogs build confidence, skills and good trail manners

YOU’LL FIT RIGHT IN IF YOU

• Have experience working with dogs or animals
• Are physically fit and genuinely enjoy hiking for hours
• Feel comfortable being alone in the forest with a pack of dogs
• Are calm, observant and confident taking the lead
• Have a full driver’s licence and are comfortable driving our trucks
• Are reliable, friendly and open to learning

BEHIND THE ADVENTURE

We provide the company truck plus all dog and hiking gear. You’ll also receive training in K9 handling, behaviour, safety and basic first aid.

You’ll work independently a lot of the time, but you’ll have a team behind you and plenty of mentorship while you learn the ropes.

Basically, your office is the Squamish backcountry and your coworkers are a bunch of really great dogs!

WANT TO JOIN THE PACK?

Send your resume + a cover letter to [email protected] telling us a little about yourself, your experience with animals and why you think Fir + Bark might be a good fit for you.

We’d love to hear from you! 🐺
