ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 9: Meet Luna! You met her big brother Obi a few days ago. This spunky 10 months old golden retriever is so happy to be here! Actually she is usually just happy to be happy! She is still a growing puppy and her brain cells are still adjusting: Sometimes they connect, sometimes they misfire, and sometimes they play a long game of hide and seek... Are you holding a treat? Oh look! A squirrel! Of course she has no idea how that sock got in her dog bed and covered in her drool! What do you mean she cannot play tug-of-war with your blankets at 4 am? Luna is so proud she barely can contain herself... She is not supposed to know, but she sneaked in on her humans and she knows what she is getting for Christmas! So no need to write to Santa on her behalf - she knows that she is getting a certificate!!!! Yes! She heard it! She is a certified menace!!! She would not mind however if one of you got her a nice big frame - you know to put her certificate in. Thanks in advance! As you count the days down to Christmas, be like Luna and see the silver lining in everything!

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 8: Anna is back! Our favorite kindness ambassador is back with her trusty red ball! Anna is sporting her latest subscription bandana, proud to wear a Winter pattern! Anna, being the polite and gentle soul that she is, is actually writing to Santa to thank him and send him well wishes for his hardest working month of the whole year. She will not only leave him cookies and milk, but will also pack him a thermos of hot cocoa for the road and leave him his own emotional support red ball to offer comfort during the long night. She won't ask, but she secretly hopes that Santa will leave her an autographed picture of Rudolph... She has kind of a little crush on the famous reindeer as his nose reminds her so much of her red ball. But don't tell him! As you wait for Christmas, be like Anna and enjoy the colder season... Who cares if your car won't start? It is only one more opportunity for a walk! A walk! Let's go!

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 7: Dave is back! This now 3.5 old Corgi moonlights as a satellite dish. His family is happy to report that they now get HBO when those awesome gorgeous perky ears are pointed in the right direction. Dave is not your usual friendly-happy-go-lucky-love-everybody kind of guy. Think of him as your slightly cranky old retired bachelor neighbour. You know the kind that will yell at kids to stay off his lawn, but will also keep a bowl of candy (pink peppermints anybody?) ready for polite visitors (who use the walkway to the door, of course). Well Dave is like that. He is a strong believer in the "live and let live" philosophy and will quietly enjoy your presence and grant you an audience (ie: you will be allowed to pet him) if you are polite about it. Rush him however, and he will tell you to get off his turf before ignoring you (and you should know that he is a black belt at ignoring people. And commands). But since he obviously allowed you here today, would you be a dear and help him with is letter to Santa? He simply wants a perimeter fence, to keep people off his lawn. As you countdown to Christmas, be like Dave and embrace your inner introvert when you need a bit of breathing space.

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 6: (English follows the French) - Voici Max, cavalier king Charles de 7 ans. Comme sa race le suggère, Max est un aristocrate. Amateurs de choses raffinées, il patrouille régulièrement son terrain et seul les écureuils de bonne famille ont le droit d’y vivre afin de lui fournir une raison de japper. Les canards dans son lac nagent en formation comme une parade nautique en son honneur. Il sait qu’il est d’une telle popularité que son humaine doit ramasser ses petits besoins lors de leurs marches pour s’assurer que ses fans ne les vendent pas sur le marché noir. Il donnera l’honneur à l’un de vous d’écrire sa lettre au Père Noël (sur du papyrus antique avec une plume de dodo et encre infusée de platine, svp): il accepterait un bronze à son image, un collier Hermès et un os de tyranosaure. Faites comme Max, et prenez un moment pour vous admirer.

This is Max, a 7-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. As his breed suggests, Max is an aristocrat. A lover of refined things, he regularly patrols his grounds, where only squirrels from good families are allowed to live, giving him a reason to bark. The ducks in his lake swim in formation like a nautical parade in his honor. He knows he is so popular that his human has to pick up his p**p during their walks to ensure his fans don't sell it on the black market. He will give one of you the honor of writing his letter to Santa Claus (on ancient papyrus with a dodo feather and platinum-infused ink, please): he would accept a bronze statue in his likeness, a Hermès collar and a tyrannosaurus bone. Follow Max's example and take a moment to admire yourself.

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 5: Onyx is back! Our favorite 3 year-old Gordon Setter and cat afficionado had a very busy year. She is currently on the talk-show circuit, promoting her new bestseller: "Dogs are from Pluto and cats are from another galaxy: the untold story of dogs who love cats and the cats who hate them". The book wrote itself really once she founded the local chapter of the support group Canine Loving All Whiskers (or the C.L.A.W.), of which she is the founder, president, treasurer, secretary and lone member. It is a tragedy really, that she so tremendously enjoys the company of the two feline members of the household, but they so openly reject her love, time after time. Well, all is not lost, there is light at the end of the very long tunnel. One has started to reciprocate her affection, provided that she is very, very still. The other one no longer say hi in a hissing manner, and has started to simply ignore her. That is progress! Onyx is crafting the perfect letter for Santa and simply wants a bag of bait, oops, she means cat treats, and a litre of catnip scented cologne. And she wants to know - does hypnosis work on cats? She is asking for a friend. Be like Onyx and seek opportunities to develop new friendships!

ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 4: Murdawg is back! This almost 2 year-old French Bulldog is now a professional athlete in the couch potatoe discipline. I know, I know, most of you will argue that this is not a real sport, but it is when you apply to it the discipline that Murdawg dedicates to his art. You see, you first need to turn in thight circles and complete exactly 4.5 rotation counter-clockwise in order to pat down the perfect spot (clockwise on week-ends and between the hours of midnight and six on weekdays). Then you need to lie down by dropping your body in one fell swoop. You must commit to the plonk. None of those bum first, then front fancy pants approach. You must be standing one second and fully lying down the next. Then, there is the placement of the head. You must find the perfect angle for the air you breathe to reach maximum velocity in order to create the powerful snores that reverberate through the whole house. It is important, because if everybody falls asleep, how are they going to admire you?! The next step is only achieved in top athletes of Murdawg's level: after sleeping for a little while, you must ensure that your change of position is announced by a wind breaking event, ideally odorless and audible. You do lose serious points if your toot is of the inaudible but odoriferous kind… Murdawg needs help writing to Santa as he wants equipment to continue practice his art: a new dog bed and a few cans of beans would be awesome! Be like Murdawg and commit to a sport or a hobby you like.

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 3: Meet Wizard (right) and Frankie (left), 11 year-old dachshund and professional actors. Wizard, also known as Wiz, the Wiz Kid or in his wild years Wizzy Dizzy is a classical theater phenomenon known for his leading role in Shakespeare’s Omelet. Frankie, whose formal name is Francesca, sometimes lives her life as her alter ego Phyllis to avoid being recognized by her adoring fans since she appeared in the Hollywoof classic: Bone with the Wind. As you can imagine, they both struggle with writing their letters to Santa… you try to have nice penmanship when your nose is glued to the paper because your paw is so close to your body! If you don’t mind, could you write it for them? All they want is a private chef, a chauffeur, a personal trainer and a maid. Oh wait…. They kind of already have dedicated humans for that…. Mmmm, OK then, what about treats and food for every day of their life? Oh wait, they have that too! Toys? They have some. Belly scratches? They get those for free everyday. Oh well, just write the letter and surprise them! Please and thank you! Be like Wizard and Frankie and appreciate what you have!

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 2: Meet Obi, 3.5 year-old Golden Retriever and certified good boy. Obi is the CEO, or Canine Entertainement Officer, at his house, and coordinates multiple activity program to keep all the humans in his house well occupied, both the young ones and the adults. He also contributes to the training of his little sister Luna (who you will meet later this month). Without him, how would she know where to find the best morsels and snacks droppings? Obi, being the organized well-behaved boy that he is, has already written his letter to Santa, mailed it and waits by the door for the mailman to see if Santa responded. Is this the year that he gets his own recliner with integrated water bowl and milkbones dispenser? A busy good boy like him needs his "me time" too, you know! Be like Obi and try to find a few minutes to pamper yourself, OK?

ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 1: Her royal highness and self-appointed CFO (Chief Feline Officer) of the family, and also my grandcat, Louise the first, demanded that I do an Advent calendar. Nevermind that she has a little something in every single day of the Advent calendar I prepared for her humans, she felt that she should also be seen and admired in all her feline glory to light up the holidays. Now it was tough negotiations, as Louise believed that every single day should be about her, but in the end I did convince her that there are many cool pets out there who deserve their day to shine too, as they proudly wear a bandana of mine! I did have to reassure her that she remained my favorite white cat with gray bangs and different colours eyes in the whole world. Wish me luck as I embark on this challenge as I will admit that I currently do not have 24 days of pets ahead of me…. Feel free to reach out if you have one to share! Happy Light Up Riverview everyone. 🥰 Tonight is the night that Riverview lights up the waterfront!! Love this, so so beautiful!! Not that Riverview isn't beautiful anyway, the lights just add to it. 🥰
Stop into Made With Love-Janet's Bake Shop and Crafts at 206 Pine Glen Rd with the entrance on Harvey Road here in Riverview today before heading down to the lighting. Both Santa and the Grinch will be here from 5:30 to 8pm if you would like your picture taken with them. Don't forget as well that I will have Tacos in a Bag to purchase so you don't have to make supper starting at 5pm. Louise has a very important public service announcement to make.
