For 139 days, Birdie has watched other dogs leave.
She’s watched families walk through the shelter doors with hope in their eyes. She’s watched them meet dog after dog, fall in love, sign adoption papers, and head home to start their new lives.
And every single time, Birdie is walked back to her room.
Again.
And again.
And again.
At just over a year old, Birdie should be spending her days chasing adventures, not counting the days she’s spent behind shelter walls. She should be discovering hiking trails, curling up at her family’s feet after a long day, riding shotgun on road trips, and learning all the little routines that make a house feel like home.
Instead, she waits.
Birdie isn’t “too much.”
She’s not “too energetic.”
She’s not “too difficult.”
She’s a young dog with a huge heart and a huge zest for life. She wants to explore. She wants to learn. She wants to run through the snow, ride in the truck, go camping, go fishing, and be included in all of life’s adventures.
She wants someone to choose her.
The shelter does everything possible to make her days brighter, but a shelter is not a home. It isn’t a family. It isn’t the comfort and security she desperately needs. No matter how much love we give her, at the end of the day she still falls asleep without a family of her own.
Birdie is incredibly smart. She listens beautifully. On walks, she stays close and comes when called because to Birdie, you’re a team. She trusts wholeheartedly. She gives her entire heart.
Now she just needs someone willing to give theirs back.
She is wonderful with children. She can do well with dogs and cats once she’s had the chance to burn off some of the excitement she’s been carrying for months. You see, Birdie loves so hard that sometimes it overwhelms her. Every friend she meets might be the last one she sees, and after 139 days of goodbyes, can you really blame her?
She doesn’t need perfection.
She doesn’t need someone with all the answers.
She just needs someone who won’t give up on her.
Someone who sees past the kennel walls and recognizes the loyal, loving, adventurous soul waiting inside.
And there’s one more incredible reason to give Birdie a chance: thanks to the generosity of Lakeland Hyundai, Birdie’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored. They believe this sweet girl deserves her happily ever after, and they’re helping remove one more barrier between Birdie and the family she’s been dreaming of.
Birdie needs security.
Birdie needs a family.
Birdie needs a forever home.
Please share her story. Share it with your friends, your family, your coworkers, your neighbors. Somewhere out there is the person who has been missing Birdie just as much as Birdie has been missing them.
Let’s help them find each other.
