𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 – 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞! 🦟🚨

So far this year we’ve heard about positive heartworm cases from Northumberland County and the Hamilton area – These dogs have not traveled outside of the area!

Heartworm used to be more commonly associated with warmer climates, but it has made its way up to Ontario. We think it’s important for pet owners to be aware so we can help keep our pets protected!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭? 🦟
Heartworm is a parasite transmitted through a mosquito bite that can cause significant health issues in dogs (and sometimes cats). Preventatives work by stopping the heartworm from developing after a mosquito bite!

You may have heard us mention the 4DX test at your pet’s last check-up! So what exactly is it?

A 4DX test is a simple blood test that screens for heartworm and tick-borne diseases. We use it to make sure your pet is heartworm-negative before starting monthly prevention. 𝘞𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵.

We have two options available to help protect your pet! Heartgard Plus and Interceptor Plus - Both are effective, easy to give, and used monthly during mosquito season!

• Heartgard Plus – prevents heartworm and treats roundworms and hookworms.
• Interceptor Plus – prevents heartworm with broader coverage, treating roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.

We’re happy to help if you have any questions! Give us a call to schedule your 4DX test or to pick up your heartworm preventatives to start June 1st!
