MHP has a couple more spots available for children who would benefit from time with horses in order to grow confidence, body awareness, balance and experience a non-judgemental space in which to identify and manage big feelings and emotions. If you have or know of a child who's name popped into your head when you read this, please do feel free to share this post with parents, caregivers or even just on your own page πŸ΄πŸ™‚

More info about Coming Home to Horses:
Sessions will be tailored to whatever is needed most by the client, but for the most part they will provide an opportunity for horse lovers old or new to spend time with the horses; being, grooming, connecting, creating relationships, learning ground work and then riding if that is what feels right. Sometimes what a person needs is to feel seen / acknowledged by the horse - hands on or hands off - and this is what is needed to start to re-fill the void. Some need the nurturing connection that grooming, hand grazing etc can be created between horse and human. Others need a gentle approach to getting back into the saddle after a long time away or recovering from a scary fall. There are many ways that horses can partner with us in order to fulfil needs on both sides. What I do find though is that all interactions proceed best when we are mindfully aware of what our own body language and energy is saying to the horse and vice versa. This is a practise that I come back to whether we are grooming or riding or anything in between.
Sessions run for 1hr 15 mins so as not to feel rushed into finishing and this generally allows for things to wrap up naturally and on a positive note.
A package of 4 sessions is $300 booked and payable on the first session of the month.
I am offering a standalone introductory session for $50 to meet and discuss where the client feels is the best direction to go in and to meet the horses and see who feels like the best initial fit - this may well change as sessions progress.
If you're feeling the tug to reconnect to horses, p.m. me for available days and times to book your first session.

To keep from slumping or slouching while riding...

Imagine that you have an open parachute strapped to your back. The pull of the air in the parachute keeps your shoulder blades together and tall. This imagery will help you maintain your upper-body position as your horse moves underneath you.

A good reminder for the summer.

As we move through the height of our summer competition season, it is not uncommon to have multiple days of severe heat and humidity – the days when you sweat standing still. Heat and humidity can be harder on your horse than it is on you. Most of us have worked to motivate a sluggish horse throug...

I thoroughly recommend this series of You Tube videos from Jochen Schleese "Saddle Fitting in 9 Steps" They're only a few minutes each but give invaluable insight into what we should be paying attention to when choosing saddles for our horses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2mKz0uP_K8

Center of saddle should be parallel to the floor on the horse's back...
