To celebrate 85 years of PHS, we're sharing 85 adoption stories.
33 of 85 🐶 Flora and Muriel
Flora came into my life from the Humane Society and within the first week she made it clear that life with her would be an adventure, jumping over a five foot fence without a second thought. That was my first glimpse of her determination and spirit. Since then, we have become incredibly attached.
Our days are often spent on long walks, exploring trails and neighbourhood paths together. She absolutely loves the dog park, where you will usually find her bouncing around with a ball in her mouth. We say she is part kangaroo because of the way she hops and springs through the air. She has endless energy and is always ready for the next game or outing.
Flora is very friendly and loves meeting new people and dogs. She is highly motivated by treats, especially anything fish flavoured, and she will do just about anything for a toy with a squeaker. On walks, she is always observing the world around her. She watches rabbits and squirrels closely and studies birds perched along the hydro lines above us. There is never a dull moment with her curiosity.
Car rides are not her favourite, but she is slowly becoming more comfortable with them. She also gets cold easily, but once her jacket is on she is ready to head out, especially when we are at our cabin property where she can run more freely. Watching her stretch her legs out there is pure joy.
At home, she balances all that energy by making herself completely comfortable on the couch, usually stretched out as though she owns it. She is a good listener and although we are still working on her leash manners because there are just so many smells to investigate, she brings so much joy and companionship to my life.
Flora is not just a pet. She is fully embraced as a member of our family and I cannot imagine life without her.
