Little RES Q

Little RES Q The Little RES Q is Ontario’s first CRA registered charity reptile rescue.

We are a limited admittance shelter that restricts intake in order to uphold a standard in quality of life for the surrenders in our care. We implement a waiting list when necessary, use a foster care network to help, and emphasize adoption and responsible pet ownership for all types of reptiles.

Happy World Turtle Day from Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary.

Marc is at the sanctuary today giving updates as we continue working toward opening for the 2026 season.

We truly could not have done this without the support of turtle lovers everywhere. Every share, donation, kind message, and bit of encouragement has helped make this dream possible. Your support means more to us than you know.

If you’d like to help support the turtles and the sanctuary, donations can be made here:

Happy Mother's day to all of the reptile and amphibian moms out there!

The turtles at the RESQ would like to make a few apologies to the reptile mothers out there:

1. We are sorry your phone is full of photos of us doing nothing (sorry, not sorry - we're gorgeous!)
2. We're sorry that we are picky eaters. It's not our fault that the romaine isn't perky enough.
3. We're sorry that we can't be claimed on your taxes even though we're dependents.
4. We are sorry we can't tell you how much we love you.

There you have it - have a happy and safe mother's day!

If you come across a sick or injured wild turtle, call 705-741-5000 and wait for further instructions. Always stay safe and be aware of traffic when assisting or moving a turtle. Your care can make a difference while keeping you protected. Please note that the Little RESQ is not a wildlife center and deals only with pet reptiles.

Today, we're moving turtles into Audrey's Legacy Turtle Sanctuary in her name.

Audrey came to us after more than 20 years of surviving in a bucket — fed an improper diet that left her shell permanently deformed and her body struggling. She arrived at a moment when her life could have ended, but instead, she was given a second chance with us.

In her time at Little RES Q, Audrey became more than a rescue — she became a teacher.

She helped us show the world what turtle neglect really looks like, and why education matters. Through her, thousands of people learned that turtles are not low-maintenance pets, but lifelong commitments deserving of proper care, space, and respect.

Audrey passed away on April 30, 2015 but her impact has never left us.

Today, on Audrey Day, we carry her legacy forward at Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary; a place built because of her with a promise.

A promise to do better.
A promise to educate.
A promise to protect.

Each turtle we release is a reflection of that legacy.

Each one is a second chance.

This is why we do what we do.

This is why we keep going.

For Audrey. Always.

We’ve been getting a lot of requests to move turtles to Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary, and we truly appreciate the support.

At this time, we’re not moving any turtles to the Sanctuary. The ponds are still too cold, and the turtles already there have not yet emerged.

We’ll be making a big announcement when the sanctuary officially opens for the 2026 season. Those on the waiting list will also receive an email update.

Thank you for your patience as we wait for the right conditions.

Happy Easter from all of us Little RESQ!

We hope you’re spending the day with family, friends, and your reptiles too.

We’re hoping spring is here to stay so we can open Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary in May. Warmer days can’t come soon enough.

Thank you for being part of our community and supporting the animals in our care.

Be safe and enjoy the long weekend.

UPDATE ON OUR “RARE TURTLE”

Turns out it's not one turtle, but TWO TURTLES.

And after careful observation… and a second opinion…

We can confirm:

The turtle is a rock.

Actually—two rocks. Two rock turtles.

We showed Christine last night and she looked at it for about half a second and said, “That’s a rock.”

In our defense:
• Extremely stable
• Moves really slowly (aka not at all)
• Will not eat greens
• Very opinionated about basking (won’t bask)

All signs were there.

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in adopting. Both individuals have now been adopted by the rescue and will be placed in the future greenhouses at Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary.

Happy April Fools.

Big thanks to our volunteers who pulled this off AND hand painted the handpicked rocks. They're adorable!

We’ve just taken in a very unique turtle, and we’re honestly still a little in awe.

This is not a species we see often in rescue, and we want to make sure we take a few days to properly assess care, health, and long-term needs before opening up applications.

Because of the level of interest we’re already anticipating, this adoption will be done a little differently:

We will be using a lottery-style adoption process to give everyone a fair chance.

Full details, photos, and care information will be shared in the coming days once our vet has cleared them and intake is complete.

For now, we’re just very excited to have this turtle with us.

Stay tuned.

Edit: Due to the overwhelming responses, we would like to release that this specific pet could potentially be hundreds of years old and is rumoured to be able to survive in space! We will be announcing more on Wednesday. 😜
