SUNDAY ADOPTION STORIES

"I just wanted to give you a quick update on our Salem. Her name was Viola when she was there. She’s an absolute dream come true oh my goodness. She absolutely loves to play ball and we bought her a bunch of little mini hockey balls and she carries them around in her mouth and when she comes into her room, crying really loud you know that she wants to play ball. She’s gotten really close to our Chihuahua Yoda and they chase each other and play and she is so content the two of them have started sleeping on the bed together, which is amazing. Our two other cats are not overly fond of her, but they’re leaving her alone for the most part.
She is everything and more that I was hoping for a cat. She has a blanket on a chair beside me where I sit and do my work and she just lies there. She follows me all over the house anywhere I go."

NEED TO SURRENDER YOUR PET?
Humane Societies across Canada are at maximum capacity.
Dog adoptions have dropped, while surrender requests continue to rise.

At the Moose Jaw Humane Society, we’ve gone from:
📌 1 surrender request every 1-2 months → 3–5 requests per week

We want to help—but we cannot keep up without your preparation.

Before contacting a shelter:

✔ Exhaust all options (training, vet advice, support networks)
- No Dog Left Behind
- Gary Over Kenneling and Obedience
- Jesswecan Training
- Train Happy
✔ Explore pet-friendly housing
✔ Consider safe self-rehoming options like: https://rehome.adoptapet.com/r/108665
✔ Ask about community support programs (food, behaviour help, temporary support)

If surrender is unavoidable:

✔ Have vet records ready included proof of spay and neuter and vaccinations
✔ Keep your pet up to date on vaccinations
✔ Be honest about behaviour and medical needs
✔ Be prepared to book an appointment

Your lack of preparation cannot become our emergency.
Preparation protects your pet and ensures we can help safely.

Meet Mochi! 🍡💙
Mochi is a 2–3-month-old male kitten with a stunning longhaired grey-and-white coat — he’s truly a little showstopper! While he’s the shyest of his litter, Mochi absolutely loves wrestling and playing with his siblings. With a bit of patience and love, he’ll blossom beautifully in his new home.

At his young age, he’s the perfect candidate to adapt to any living situation. Mochi is started on his vaccination schedule and microchipped, and he is ready to begin his journey to a forever family.

Pepper’s adoption fee is $150, which includes a $100 neuter deposit (refunded once he is neutered by six months of age). He is started on his vaccination schedule and microchipped, so he’s ready to begin his journey to his forever home!
