Hugo, 12 years young
*FEE WAIVED ADOPTION*

Hugo came to our shelter in April and is still waiting for a family to step up for him! This is no way for a senior dog to spend his golden years.. 😔💔

We have decided to waive his adoption fee for the right family! ****Please remember that regular adoption screening still applies****

This sweet boy has been hard to home.. People don't seem to want to adopt senior dogs or black dogs. On top of that, he is very spry for a 12 year old and doesn't act his age, which often deters that people that DO want a senior dog! Hugo is full of life and loves his walks, he also requires a pet-free home. All of these things put together have resulted in a longer stay than we would like for this old man.

Would it be easier to let him go to a home with other pets? Absolutely. Would it be right? Absolutely not. Sometimes, easier is not better. As much as we hate to see Hugo stuck at the shelter, we want to set him up for success and make sure his next home will be his final home. Hugo deserves peace, he deserves comfort, he deserves stability. At this point in his life, he has made it clear he wants to be the ONLY pet. Cats are too fun to chase and dogs get on his nerves! It simply isn't worth the risk of an incident and having him returned, we aren't sure he'd be able to handle that stress..

Hugo has a big voice and he likes to use it! He is happy to nap in his bed after walks but makes sure we know when he wants or needs something. He is a big talker when he is excited! He is very affectionate with people he knows but can be a little aloof with strangers. We promise once you break through that silver exterior, he has a heart of gold
