Grandpaw Far Away is visiting this week… and things look a little different than the last time he was here. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Back then we were a household of 3… now there’s just a few more.. 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

It didn’t take long for a few of them to warm up to him..

Our Tucker isn’t complaining: extra humans means extra walks this week and he plans to take full advantage of it. 💙

Otis is officially PENDING 🧡

What does pending mean?
It means a family has completed all of the pre-requisites to become Otis’ potential forever family and he’ll soon be heading into his trial period.

This is the part where we hold our breath, cross all our fingers & toes and hope this quirky little man has finally found exactly where he belongs. 😎

Otis has made us laugh, demanded personal space and completely steal hearts along the way. Watching him get this opportunity is a really special moment for all of us.

Go show them your best side, buddy… eventually. 🤣🧡

What a successful day for the boys! 🐾💛

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our followers, supporters and everyone who stopped by today to visit Otis and Nito at the adoption event.

The love, conversations, shares, encouragement and support mean so much to us and to these deserving dogs.

We’re so excited to share that BOTH boys have solid leads! 🥹🐾

A little about the faces behind The Cartel…

Jon and Kim met 10 years ago, moved to the Edmonton area in 2019 and got married in 2021. Since the end of 2021, together they’ve helped rescue over 500 pets.

Life didn’t take us down the path of having children, so our animals truly are our kids. When your pets stay with us, we love them like they’re our own too. 💛

This rescue world has given us some of the best dogs, best people and best memories imaginable.

So come say hi, meet Nito and Otis, hear their stories, enter the contest and hang out with us for a bit. 🐾

Two boys.
Two very different stories.
Two incredible transformations. 💙

These before and after photos are only 1–2 months apart… but the change goes far beyond appearance.

Nito came to us as a medical case.
His little face told the whole story — discomfort, neglect and eyes that needed help.
With proper care, consistency, medication, good food, and love, look at him now.
His eyes are brighter, his expression still says “I woof you” and his sweet personality finally gets to shine through.

Then there’s Otis.
Otis was the kind of case that breaks your heart.
Neglect mixed with emotional shutdown.
Matted, defeated, unsure… and carrying himself like the world had let him down.
His before photo says everything — tucked tail, closed body language, trying to disappear.
Now? Tail up. Bright eyes.
Confidence growing every single day.
And the ironic part?
He absolutely LOVES being brushed.
There was never a reason for him to end up in that condition in the first place.

These are the dogs we tend to get called about.
The harder cases.
The ones people overlook.
The ones that need patience.

We happily leave the puppies to others. 🤪
Give us the seniors, the medical cases, the emotionally shut down dogs, the misunderstood ones… because watching them come back to life is something special.

And honestly?
Boys like them remind us exactly why we do this. 🥹💛
