The reality of long-haired cats 🩶🐾🧡

These photos are from the cat I groomed at the spay & neuter clinic this weekend.
What you’re looking at isn’t “a few tangles”—it’s months of loose undercoat, knots and matting that had become one solid layer.

The only humane option was a full shave.

That second photo?
One of the mats I removed.
Now imagine that pulling on your skin every time you move, stretch or lie down.

The good news? This is preventable.

Long-haired cats need regular brushing—not just when they start looking fluffy.
The goal is to remove loose undercoat before it turns into felted mats.
Good nutrition, hydration and coat-supporting supplements can also make a huge difference in coat health and shedding.

A special thank you to Archie for volunteering as our model for what proper coat maintenance looks like. 🧡🐈
Archie gets regular brushing, quality food and supplements, which means we can easily remove handfuls of loose coat before it becomes a problem.

Long-haired cats are absolutely beautiful, but they need someone who gives a s**t about maintaining that coat.

Love isn’t just admiring the floof—it’s putting in the work to keep it healthy.

Brush the cat.
The cat may disagree, but it will thank you later 🐾

Happy Pawther’s Day! 🐾💚

Otis wanted to make sure Jon knew how much he appreciated him, so he skipped the card and went straight for nose licking... 🤣😷

Nothing says “thanks for everything” quite like unsolicited kisses while you’re trying to get work done.

Otis spent the night with his potential new mom; after days of rain, he has suddenly transformed into a quiet, well-behaved gentleman. 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

Feeling a little under the weather this morning, Otis has requested a Father’s Day pickup from Jon.
Convenient timing?
We may never know..

Some volunteer opportunities stay with you long after you’ve packed up your tools.
Today was one of those days.

I had the opportunity to travel to Maskwacis and volunteer with the Canadian Force Spay and Neuter Clinic.

Over the course of the day, I groomed 3 small dogs, 2 large dogs, and 1 cat—but it wasn’t the number of animals that left an impression on me.
It was their stories.

🐾 Gordo arrived with a severely matted, neglected coat. There was no saving it and the kindest thing I could do was start fresh. He lost all his fur except for a little dignity left on top of his head.

🐾 Jaques the Yorkie was overwhelmed by all the activity around him and wanted nothing to do with coming out of his crate. After a few unsuccessful negotiations and some creative crate-emptying techniques, he came around and was a much happier little guy by the end of his groom.

🐾 Chewie was the easiest kind of client—a happy little dog who just wanted to be where the people were. The only disagreement we had was when it came time to head back to his kennel.

Watching this clinic operate was incredible.
So many moving parts, so many dedicated people and so many animals whose lives were made a little better because of it.

It was heartbreaking, overwhelming and inspiring all at the same time.

Today was a reminder that sometimes the smallest acts of care—a shave down, a nail trim, a gentle touch, a little patience—can make a world of difference to an animal.

I’m grateful I got to be a small part of it. 💛🐾

Remember being a kid and deciding your bedroom furniture needed a complete redesign overnight? 😂

That was Tucker this morning.

For reasons known only to him, he dragged his giant bed right into the middle of the living room and seemed pretty proud of his new layout. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Big day for the boys yesterday! 💚🖤

Otis spent the day with his potential family and left quite the impression. The verdict? Another date is already on the calendar! 🐾😍

Nito started his day at the park doing what Nito does best—charming absolutely everyone he met.
New friends? Of course.
Potential adopters? Maybe…

So now the competition is on:

Who will find their forever family first?
Who will be the first to pack their toys and move out of Casa?

Is today the day?

Nito has been waiting patiently for his forever family.

Every car ride, every new face, every stop along the way, he looks out the window wondering if this is the moment his life changes. If this is the day someone chooses him.

He’s watched other dogs pack their bags and head home. He’s celebrated their happy endings while still waiting for his own.

But Nito hasn’t given up.

He still leans in for affection.
He still wags his tail when someone says hello.
He still believes his people are out there somewhere.

Maybe today is the day.
Maybe the next share reaches the right person.
Maybe the next message is the one.

Until then, Nito will keep looking out the window, hoping his forever family is looking for him too. 🖤🐾
