Every time I say we’re closed for intake, something like this comes up.

This mom and her 4 babes have been living outside in the Westdale area. The person whose yard she decided to bring her babies to reached out for help. There was lots of construction about to happen around the home, which made acting fast important.

Elaine, of course, saves the day, and we could only take these guys in because she stepped up to foster. Both she and the finders committed to helping with the cost of their care, which we are very grateful for. We are still on the struggle bus, and it always kills me to say no, but luckily this allowed us to say yes!

They were able to touch mom, so I told Elaine I thought it would be easy to get mama and hard to get the babies, but of course the opposite happened. They were able to hand-catch the 4 babies, but mom was stressing out and wasn’t able to be caught right away.

We always do our very best to make sure no mamas are left behind!

Today, Elaine took 2 of the babies to hopefully catch mom. It sounds like it was a bit of a mission and a big team effort from some neighbours, but they got her!

The family has been reunited at Elaine’s, and they are so happy to be back together. The babies are a little hissy, but we know they’ll be love bugs in no time.

They will never again add to the endless population of cats and kittens trying to survive outside.

They aren’t available for adoption just yet, as it’s only the beginning of their rescue journey, but we will let everyone know once that time comes!

Your support and donations are the only way we can continue helping lives like this.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make their lives better.

The best is yet to come!

Goal update and new prize added!

Thanks to some amazing humans we have now raised $1595 of our $3000 goal. We also had multiple people call in to make donations towards our current vet balance and lots of you sharing and engaging with our posts!

Any support means more than you know and I can’t say thank you enough!

It also means we’ve been able to help take on some new unexpected intakes that we will introduce soon.

We still need some extra help getting to that original goal so we can keep saying yes to the endless amount of local animals that need us.

Our fundraiser is still going until Monday evening and we’ve added 2 Blue Jay’s Outfield District Tickets as a third prize!

If every follower purchased just one entry, we wouldn’t have to say no to an intake, solely due to lack of funds, for the next year.

Every person that has donated through etransfer will automatically be entered to win. We will be using an online wheel to do the draw. The amount you donate will determine how many times your name is added.

🎟 Virtual Entries:
$10 for 1
$20 for 3

Each entry gives you a chance to win 1 of 3 amazing prizes!

📅 Draw Date:
June 1st at 7:00 PM

Winners will be contacted directly and announced in the post.

To enter, please send your e-transfer to:
[email protected]

Prize pickup can be arranged within one hour of the Brantford/Hamilton area.

If you’re unable to donate, a share, comment, or little bit of engagement goes a very long way.

A huge thank you to for getting us the donations to use in the two baskets and for the tickets!

Thank you for helping us be able to continue helping those that need us most.

We’ve only raised $220 out of our $3000 goal to be able to open intakes again.

If we can’t raise the funds needed to keep Salty going, I’ll have to permanently close intake.

I wish people could understand how just a simple like or share of a rescue’s post could literally save a life.

If enough people donate just $5, that’s all I need to say yes.

You wouldn’t imagine the amount of rehoming requests we receive DAILY. How many innocent lives in our community are lost because the people trying to help them can’t afford to do it. There are multiple animals I would love to say yes to right now. It hurts my soul to have to say no every. single. time.

I’m doing everything I can to keep Salty going, but I can’t afford to put any more of my own money into the rescue. Like many people right now, we are also struggling with the rising costs of life and caring for our own animals, while dedicating a significant amount of unpaid work that comes with running a rescue.

Ongoing health issues have also limited the amount of time/energy I’m able to put toward fundraising, which makes things difficult.

I want nothing more than to continue helping animals in need, but we can’t do it without more support.

I hate having to constantly beg for donations but our government doesn’t care to support rescues like ours. Adoption fees very rarely cover the cost of each animal.

We will have over $3500+ in vet bills by the second week of June. This doesn’t include supplies. This is just for the current animals in our care. Not including any new intakes or any unexpected health issues.

Please check out our current fundraiser (I’ll post again tomorrow). We also have 2 Blue Jay’s Outfield District tickets for June 7th that have been added as a 3rd prize (Thank you Alissa!)

If anyone is able to help put on a little fundraiser I do have some items for prizes we could use! I just don’t have the ability to do a bigger fundraiser myself right now😩.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. Any support is so appreciated. Times are hard and we get it! If you can’t donate, engaging with a post or a quick share helps so much!

Shuggie is home from her dental!

She needed two teeth pulled. She also had a small umbilical hernia repaired, got up to date on her vaccines, had a snap test done, and received more prevention. She already has a home lined up once she’s fully recovered, and we are so excited for her!

Thank you to Dr. Middleton and the entire team at Dundas Animal Hospital for always making sure our animals receive the very best care.

Our family has taken our personal pets to Dundas for as long as I can remember, and we are so grateful for the compassion and care they give both our own animals and our rescue animals. We feel incredibly lucky to have a vet clinic that is so understanding and makes everything so easy. Even when I’m in there making their lives more difficult with all my crazy rescue shenanigans 😂.

Thank you as well to all the Salty supporters for helping us afford the care Shuggie deserves.

Now there’s just one more step to her rescue journey…forever!

🚨PLEASE SHARE OUR FUNDRAISER SO WE CAN KEEP SAYING YES.

Animals continue to lose their lives at a heartbreaking rate across Ontario. Endless happy, healthy, loving souls are being euthanized in local shelters or left suffering while trying to survive outside. The only way we can continue taking in these animals is with your help.

We are fully volunteer run and receive no government funding. Right now, we need to raise at least $3,000 before I can comfortably commit to another intake. We have multiple upcoming vet visits, and the little dog dentals have really been draining the rescue account.

I truly hate that rescues have to rely on begging for donations to help these lives, and I wish there was another way.

We’re hoping this raffle helps us reach our goal.

If every follower purchased just one ticket, we wouldn’t have to say no to an intake, solely due to lack of funds, for the next year.

It’s Buttons’ 4th birthday and his mama Twix’s last time ever having to give birth day too!

All they wish for on this special day is for a forever home. If you’re able to share their post so we can finally find their humans, it would be so appreciated.

This mother and son pair are still looking for the perfect people to give them the home they deserved from the start.

Twix and Buttons have been through being dumped twice now. We will be very picky about the home they end up in. They deserve bun savvy humans that can be committed to giving them both only the best for the rest of their lives.

Twix was originally found dumped on a trail, pregnant. She had her babies at our local shelter and we couldn’t say no to taking them. Twix is approx 6 months older than Buttons.

Mama is a typical shy bun but will do anything for a treat! Buttons is a bit shy too but is the cutest kissy boy. They are both gentle and sweet natured. They will need some continued help with socializing but with time, and some extra treats, they warm up to new humans quickly! They are somewhat litter trained. They would like a quieter home where they can continue to be spoiled and loved for the rest of their lives.

These two have had some amazing fosters along the way, but we can’t wait until they finally find their forever!

Twix and Buttons are spayed/neutered, microchipped and will be up to date on their RDHV2 vaccine.

If interested in adopting Twix and Buttons please apply⬇️

Also the biggest happy birthday to Twix’s other two adopted babes, Nibs and Skor!!

We are now accepting applications for Skye!

Skye
1.5 yrs
Dogs ✅
Cats with proper intro ✅
No small children ❌

Skye does still need her spay and remaining booster/prevention, but we would love to have a home lined up for her once she’s fully vetted.

Skye was found as a “stray” dragging a large chain before ending up at our local shelter. Shepherds rarely do well in a shelter setting and we couldn’t say no to taking her on.

Skye seemed to lack exposure to a lot of things when she first arrived at her foster home and was a bit insecure. Thanks to Jordan, she’s thriving and has shown just how much of an amazing dog she really is.

Skye is a goofy, happy girl and has been nothing but a love bug while in our care. She has a surprisingly low level of reactivity for a Shepherd. She’s great in her crate, does well in the car and loves a good belly rub. If you have a love for Sheppies, she’s your girl!

She is young and is still working on her manners. She can be a bit play mouthy and jumps up when excited, so small children would likely not be the best match for her.

She’s been a good girl around the kitties in her foster home. She’s been great with other dogs and would love a buddy.

Skye will benefit from continued training. Providing structure/boundaries will ensure that she keeps the label of “goodest girl ever”. She would do best with people that understand and respect the breed and are willing to set her up for success.

Skye absolutely loved joining her foster mom for canicross. She would love to find a family that will make sure she gets to enjoy even more outdoor adventures.

Jordan recently found a used canicross harness the rescue purchased and we know it will help Skye and future Salties receive the fullfillment they deserve while waiting for their forever homes.

If interested in giving Skye her perfect forever home, please fill out an application on our website.

Welcome Estelle!

We were contacted by someone about a young stray that seemed to be a regular in the area. Our amazing foster’s, Caitlyn and Adam, were able to go right away to try to find her. Luckily they were able to spot her quickly and get her from under a car. She was covered in dirt and fleas but had the sweetest meows for them once they secured her. No owner came forward during her stray period so now she’s a Salty!

She’s settled in to her foster home and is very spoiled. She’s about 4 months old and already had her first round of vetting. She has her spay/booster coming up soon.

We would love to have a home lined up for her for once she’s recovered. Caitlyn and Adam have their own little one on the way soon, so one less home for her to have to get used to on her forever home journey would make things easier!

This is what her foster’s had to say about her:

“Estelle is a very social, loving, and outgoing girl. She loves to be near humans but also loves to play with her kitty foster brothers, who she has quickly become the boss of 💃🏼. She loves to watch birds and doggies from the window and catio of her foster home. Estelle shows interest in dogs and seems like she would happy with a doggy or a young kitty sibling in her new home. “

If you think you have a loving home where she will received the care every cat deserves, and a friend for her to love on, please submit an application on our website.

Happy Victoria Day from the Queen herself, Shuggie!

Poor Shug is so scared of the fireworks. I tried to see what I could use for a makeshift thunder shirt. This dress fit her perfectly😂

She’s been loving life at Salty HQ and getting her steps in. She’s already making progress towards her weight loss goal and is the sweetest little thing!

Foster to adopt still needed for Pudge and Nala!

We have found a foster for these two, but we’re still hoping to reduce the number of stops on their journey to forever by finding a foster to adopt home before their previous adopter needs to move out later this month.

We did receive some applications, but we’re still searching for the perfect match. It’s never easy to say no, but we need to make sure these two go to a home where there’s no question they will thrive for the rest of their lives.

If you remember Pudge, he was one of my bottle babes 5 years ago. He came to us when he was only a few days old.

His adopter feels she’s no longer able to provide him with the life he deserves, so Pudge is coming back to Salty.

Pudge is bonded to the other cat in the home, Nala, a 3 year old Maine C**n, and we need to keep them together.

They are both already spayed/neutered, so we’re hoping to find a foster to adopt home while we get them in for a check up and vaccines updated.

They need a home with NO other cats. Dogs and children may be okay as long as they have their own space and time to adjust. They can both be very sweet, but Pudge especially may need a little extra time to warm up. We need someone willing to give them both a chance to warm up and settle into their new home.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting a bonded pair, please consider Pudge and Nala.

If interested, please submit an application on our website.

www.saltyanimalrescue.com/adopt

If we feel your home may be a good match, we will make sure to contact you.

(Including some baby Pudge spam so you can fall in love with him even more🥺)
